495: It’s not just a highway that takes you near Citi Field

I’d like to welcome the rest of you to the “season’s over” club.   It’s not a club I want to be in.

Tuesday morning I let everyone know it was open, most of you were talking about “2 out of 3” but I think you are now all prepared to come along.

Baseball does have a clock, and it runs out October 3rd.

The Mets are playing .495 ball and 8 back…but if you still believe the Braves & Phillies will both play .500 ball while the Mets play .670 go right ahead.

I don’t see how it is in any way acceptable that this team is below .500 on August 7th.   The organization cannot hide behind injuries this time.

Even the Philly media is surprised the Mets lost.

The fans are restless again.   On Facebook (you’ll have to be logged in) some are organizing a “Mets Fan CitiField Sit Out” for August 25th.   As I’ve said in the past, I choose not to be part of organized boycotts of the team.  That’s a personal decision for each of you.

Metsmerized wishes Tom Seaver would buy the Mets.  No chance.

Meanwhile over at On the Black, Kerel not only shares his thoughts about trading Wright or Reyes….but his technology totally kicks my tail.   He’s got a pre-roll ad on his videos, not to mention his cool video technology.   I like what Kerel does…a nice “different” blog…I gotta sneak a peek at his wallet next time I see him.

The Men In Black Lineup for Friday

Here’s the lineup as we seem if Jon Niese can snap the “we are wearing the dopey black uniforms” streak at 5.

Angel Pagan – LF
Carlos Beltran – CF
David Wright – 3B
Ike Davis – 1B
Josh Thole – C
Jeff Francoeur – RF
Luis Castillo – 2B
Jonathon Niese – LHP

You own this All Star jersey: Glavine

Tonight, the Braves honor the greatest Cylon (aka sleeper agent) of all time, Tom Glavine.   Atlanta sent Tom to New York to destroy the Mets just when they needed him most – and tonight the Braves honor Tom and will retire his number.

We salute you Mr. “I bought a Tom Glavine All Star Jersey” whereever you are!

Thanks to Mo (@metsflu)for sending over.

Mark Cuban the owner

I really enjoy Mark Cuban’s blog. Today he wrote about the process of trying to buy the Rangers.  A solid read, and I thought you’d enjoy it including this excerpt.

(D)espite what people think, I don’t keep hundreds of millions of dollars in a checking account. I prefer that it earn money doing things for me.  It is not easy to get liquid to the point of $400mm dollars or more in just a few weeks.  And in those few short weeks, its not easy to go to the banks and get a loan for a baseball team. Lots of reasons.  Some I don’t like, but it’s not.  Second, I didn’t have enough time to do all the due diligence my folks needed to do.  You don’t read every contract and get people to run numbers and advise you on what all the implications of a bankruptcy auction are in a couple weeks. I was paying people to work round the clock. I was killing my General Counsel Robert Hart to the point of exhaustion. There wasn’t enough time.
