If you run on the field you’re a knucklehead, however this seems excessive.
Another Subway Series presale at 10am
If you are subscriber to the Flushing Flash (and if you’re not, why not – it’s free and gets you stuff like presale codes), there is a Subway Series presale at 10am.
As I have stated previously, I don’t think it’s cool to post pre-sale codes so I won’t.
The general sale is Thursday at 10am.
Baseball and Politics
I have been asked to comment on the role of baseball and politics, specific to MLB and the All Star Game in Arizona.
I don’t want to debate the law on this site. It’s not what we do here.
I’m trying to think about where baseball making a statement would end.
Say baseball takes the All Star Game away from Arizona and moves it to Flushing. What if the NRA smells blood and sees that MLB can be pressured, so the NRA decides to use the game to protest Bloomberg’s handgun policy. Then what?
What about a player? Folks sit out All Star Games for all sorts of reasons. What about a three game series against the Diamondbacks? Do you sit that out? What if you are traded to Arizona?
I saw a protest outside Wrigley against the Diamondbacks. As if the actual Diamondbacks have anything to do with it. It’s 25 guys who wound up playing for a team that could just as easily be called the Nippon Ham Fighters.
Players have celebrity status which they can use whether they want to sell sneakers, raise awareness for a charity, date Madonna or speak out on issues.
Perhaps a player or players could use their platform to encourage discussion and an exchange of ideas.
I’m not smart enough to solve this one. All I know is the Arizona baseball team has a dopey name, a stupider short form name and some really fugly uniforms.
Speaking of which, I’m just trying to rid the world of black uniforms, failing miserably, but will take another stab in an hour.
Mets Alumni Association
I just received this e-mail from the Mets.
The Mets who are embracing their own history these days started up the Mets Alumni Association last week.

Click thumbnails to see larger size.
Its nice to see Rusty, Mookie, Bud (I have an autographed ball from him), Ed Kranepool, and Al Jackson at the ballpark.
The Alumni Association, The Mets, and Citi gave the first award for “Teammates in the Community”. They gave this to a volunteer of the Wounded Warrior Project.
In my opinion good job by The Mets in honoring the community and their history/former players.
I’ll add this part just for Shannon. I notice the person that was given the award is wearing a Cooperston Collection Seaver Jersey. No black drop shadow there..
Links: Philly, Philly and Arizona
Some links:
Philly.com has an interesting comparison about the ballparks in Flushing and Philadelphia. Â As the grass is always greener, in this article the Mets are smart folks who got the ballpark they wanted, and the Phillies have bumbled their way into a homerfest.
Also from Philly, Peter took his usual quality photgraphs and says:
Phillies have ushers to enforce the going to your seat rule while the game is in progress
The older fans were very nice to me but the young fans were drunk and begging for attention
Total cost Parking & Tolls from Bergen County $30.20 it would be $35 just to visit Citi field.
From Mets Police HQ I actually find it easier to attend a Phillies game, and pay zero in tolls. Â The key is the “other 95.”
Finally, A-Train baseball has requested I comment on Arizona.  Let me work out something more thoughtful than just banging out one sentence.  Can’t do that right now.
