The reason listed for WHY the Mets are the #2 baseball brand is a hoot: Dodgers

Metsblog did a nice recap of the story about Forbes listing the Mets as the #2 brand in baseball (I will give you one guess at #1) but what is important to the redership here at the Mets Police is the reason given by Forbes. Ready?

League: Major League Baseball

Brand Value: $159 million

The Mets have built their brand in part by successfully integrating the Brooklyn Dodgers’ past with their own: Look no further than Citi Field’s Jackie Robinson Rotunda.

Yeah, that’s gone over really well with fans.  It has nothing to do with being in a market of 20,000,000 people.

Mets lose again and Spiderman gets depressed

As I continue to offer you fun generic content while I am (a) in Airport Hell, (b) flying or (c) sleeping – this one is tons of fun.  A new Spiderman comic which focuses on trips that Uncle Ben and Peter Parker used to take to Shea Stadium.   Here’s the page where Pete gets depressed (I bet Pete Falcone was pitching) and on this site you can see some other pages where the Mets win a game three days before Ben’s death.  Oops, spoiler.  Well, you had 50 years to read Spiderman.  Click the comic and it will get bigger.

Mets fan raising money for the Tug McGraw foundation

I like when I can use my blog for good, and when Mets fans come together – whether it is linking to each other’s blogs or trying to make the world a better place.

Greg Prince from Faith and Fear dropped me a note this morning:

We have a reader, Sharon Chapman, who’s running the New York City Marathon to help raise funds for the Tug McGraw Foundation, which is devoted to fighting brain cancer (which is what took Tug’s life). Can you link to the interview we have with her today? It’s a great example of what a Mets fan can do when inspired and trying to inspiring others.

Very happy to – please check out the story.

Buffalo Bisons Business Blog

I’m still mad at the Bisons becuse they didn’t even have the courtesy to write back when I asked for credentials, but I do like this Bisons Business Blog. From time to time you’ll hear me remind you that “the Mets” are a businessm, so I like the blatant honesty coming from Buffalo.   Let’s excerpt

Print @ Home

Pretty soon the days of printing tickets will be over. Technology is such that tickets will be going by way of the dinosaur. One of the technologies pushing traditional tickets out is the “print @ home” option. Most ballparks of any size are scanning tickets. The number of people printing their tickets at home has nearly doubled each season. Every time a fan prints their tickets there is a 2″ x3″ area on the page that can be sponsored. An easily changeable coupon could be included or a branding message. That information will be on every print at home page and can be color or black and white. Last year close to 4,000 fans printed their tickets at home. The year previous we were close to 2,500. The trend is expected to accelerate even more this year. If you are interest please call or email, my information is at the end of the blog.

See, I like that.  Instead of making up some crap that printing tickets is more convenient for me (and thus they can charge me a fee) this guy is honest and says they can sell ads.  I like it.  Honest.

I shall keep an eye on this Christopher Hill.  Maybe he and the dude that came up with the Thursday Jersey Cyclones promotion can come to Flushing some day and show Dave Howard how to run the place.  Hey Chris, tell someone to email me back: [email protected]   I’ll take a “no” but nothing is plane rude.

Insight into “Are the Mets listening?”

During the week it has come up a few times whether or not the Mets are paying attention to things like blogs.   Matt Cerrone at MetsBlog has some insight and commentary on the subject here.

At a personal level, I’ve heard from numerous sources that the Mets visit here.   I’m hopeful that both the Mets and readers realize that my goal here is to help the franchise, never hurt, and I’m pleased to see that some of my friendly suggestions (like renaming the Saturday plan) were taken, coincidence or not.

Matt talks about the poor job the Mets do in responding, and a few weeks ago I suggested they need a new public face since none of us believe in the current crop.
