The Mets GM candidate I will root for

Good morning Mets fans,
David Lennon (@dplennon and one of my favorite tweeters) sent this out last night:
Just told that #Mets do have to “consider” a minority candidate for GM job, so no exemption on past track record of hiring.

I hate that there are such rules.   Consider all good candidates.   I think it’s pretty clear that the Mets are not racist when it comes to hiring.

I will be rooting for the person who is “considered” and hope they don’t just insult someone by running him (or her) in there just to check a box on a list.

More insight into a possible candidate.

Fans buyout of Oliver Perez?

Silly fun on a rainy night which is sure to get the attention of bored fat bloggers like me:

Check out The Point.

THE PITCH
The Mets new general manager will inherit the responsibility of ridding the team of Oliver Perez.

In 2009 Perez signed a 3 year 36 million dollar deal. Since that signing, Oliver Perez has been a disaster. He posted a 3-4 record last year with a 6.82 ERA. This year he has somehow managed to do worse going 0-3 with an ERA again over 6. If that wasn’t enough, Ollie refused assignment to Triple-A and angered his teammates and manager.

It seems from this past season the Mets ownership is more willing to play w/ a 24 man roster than to pay to get rid of Oliver Perez.

If you are as big a Mets fan as I am and would like nothing more than to forget the past 4 seasons and move forward then help be part of the solution. Help rid the Mets of Oliver Perez by 02/13/2011 (day pitchers and catchers report).

If we reach the “tipping point” and the Mets do not accept our generous donation all proceeds will be donated to charity.
