Mets Today thinks Mets Should Consider Trading Mike Pelfrey

A radical idea…I get the “sell high” theory, but a rotation with RA Dickey as the ace…well, that could be a long year.

There is good reason to think, however, that Pelfrey’s market value is probably inflated right now, and it would behoove the Mets to sell high on him. His tidy surface stats belie the fact that he is, most likely, a rather pedestrian pitcher. After all, looking at Pelfrey’s peripherals, he is just not particularly good at anything.

Crappy New York Mets Crap #8: Bob Friend photo

Nothing against Mr. Friend, but I defy anyone other than Howie Rose of Greg from Faith & Fear to tell me what year Mr. Friend was a Met.

However, for only $33 perhaps we should sent it to Jeff Wilpon so he can see just how good looking a Mets uniform can be without %#&$ing dropshadow.

Trivia:  who won more major league games, Dwight Gooden or Bob Friend?

Answer:  Mr. Friend won 191 games in 15 seasons with the Pirates, 5 with the Mets and one with the Yankees.   197 wins is three more than Doc.

That’s a solid career Mr. Friend!  However I think an autographed Pirates photo makes more sense.

Will the Mets make money this year? This year being 1962.

Sometimes I stumble across stuff researching other posts.

The year is 1962 and quoting the article lined below, “Will the Mets make money this year?”

Mets Finances Are Fine

Ah 1962….my grandfather’s old Mets Police Newsletter was mailed out once a month.  He would write excitedly of how the Mets honored the old Giants and Dodgers (they had an Olde Timers’ Day), how great the uniforms looked (he particularly liked the blue caps) and how excited he was about the move to Flushing Meadows Stadium (note that there were to be No Obstructed Views, a technology lost to the 1960’s)…although the $3.50 price for box seats was an insult to working class Mets fans!

The post in which I convey my excitement about Bob Melvin

Good morning Mets fans,

This morning it seems that Bob Melvin is the leading candidate and…

…I thought Community was pretty funny last night. I fell asleep during football/The Office. The Office is having a horrible season, and I’m hoping they bring in Wally Backman to replace Carrell (cough, Randy, cough).

Is everyone looking forward to Thanksgiving? I sure am. I’m working on the annual Mets Turkeys post(s). Suggestions welcome.

Oh yeah, back to Bob Melvin….I’m looking forward to watching the DVD’s from Springsteen’s new box set tonight. Did you see Bruce with Jimmy Fallon doing Neil Young singing Whip My Hair? It was very funny.

Junior told me the Yankees are getting Cliff Lee. I asked him who Cliff Lee is. He didn’t know. Good to see the kids are talking Yankees in the schoolyard. Not much Bob Melvin talk apparently.

Im not nuts about the idea of best-of-3 wild card round in 2012. I like the Costas solution of a one gamer between the two Wild Cards. Looks like MLB will need to schedule some doubleheaders to accommodate that one.

I like the rumors that the NYYs are messing with Jeter. Sandy should offer one year $5 million to play second. Now that would make things fun around here.

Anyway, Bob Melvin. Hmmm.

The Islanders blogger story and blogging about the Mets

I don’t feel like I have done all my homework about the story about the Islanders blogger losing his credentials and it probably makes more sense to address it at my still-in-beta (that means ‘baby steps’) new blog Sports Police, yet since a few people asked me to weigh in I shall.

I don’t know much about Botta’s blog nor do I know much about the day-in day-out in Nassau. I also have never tried interacting with the Islanders.

I think it’s cool the Islanders have a bloggers box. I think we will see more and more teams have blogger boxes and/or blogger events.

I assume you read my blog because you find it some interesting mix of information/snark/commentary/community. It’s not what a beat reporter does nor should it be.

The Mets invited several bloggers to three or four events in 2010. I believe there will be more. They invited the same group to a conference call with David Howard. Very cool. I won’t be surprised if they invite us to another call with the new manager.

Do I feel entitled to any of that? Nope. Will I be mad if such a call doesn’t happen? Nope. I’m just a fan who types a lot.

If the Mets credentialed me I don’t even know what I’d do: Ask David Wright which cap he likes (while the beat writers death stare me)?

A bloggers box? Might make sense for events like Mets HOF day.

I’m thrilled to think Dave Howard will do a game with me. I assume I will come away liking the man and hopefully he will like me. Must he change his business plans because we watched a game? Of course not. Likewise, we might become best friends but I will still define obstructed differently. (and I do want to pay for the tickets. This is not about trying to get freebies.)

From what I have seen of the team I feel I know best I would have a hard time imagining the Mets getting mad at a blogger’s opinion. I have been one of the more critical bloggers, yet the organization invited me in and found in real life I am not kooky. Some things I like, sometimes I use words like dopey. I can already tell you what my “Bob Melvin Article” will be. It will be short. Nobody’s asking punches to be pulled.

I don’t know what’s going on in the Coliseum. In Flushing, I think things are only getting better.
