Here’s another episode with Ed Kranepool

And while we’re enjoying our weekend here’s some other links you may have missed:

NorthJersey.com: Popper: Wally Backman should lie low till end of season

Intersting take.  I have already declared where I stand.  We’ll discuss this on the podcast at 6:30. (917) 889-2723.

But if he can’t stay quiet as Manuel’s days come to an end, can the Mets trust him with the precarious job of restoring the big-league squad?

Manuel was asked about his status last week and said, “I don’t know. I just take it a day at a time. I’ll be fine one way or the other. Whatever people I have, I’m going to take care of. Whatever kids, older players I have, I’m going to take care of.”

It was the right thing to say. Maybe that’s something Backman could learn from Manuel.

Casual confidence has made Jonathon Niese vital part of Mets rotation | NJ.com

From NJ.com as nice article about Future Hall of Famer Jon Niese.

Pitching coach Dan Warthen likens him to Yankees stalwart Andy Pettitte: Another left-hander with a lowered arm angle to add a measure of deception. The motion is fluid and simple, protecting his arm during the long season. His fastball resides on the cusp of 90 mph. He throws his curveball for strikes 60-percent of the time.

And this year, he polished a cut fastball for a third weapon. He believes in all three pitches.

“That’s who he is,” Warthen said. “He grew up getting people out. And he expects to get people out.”

Concussions becoming a bigger issue in baseball – latimes.com

An excerpt from a larger article about concussions in the LA Times.

Consider how far the Mets have come. Two seasons ago outfielder Ryan Church sustained two concussions in less than three months yet the team allowed him to fly — and to play — despite the fact he reported having concussion-related side effects. But Bay, who only recently began working out again with the hope of returning to the field this month, was forced to sit until he could go two full days without a headache.

“It’s good for the industry that we’re learning more about it,” Mets General Manager Omar Minaya told USA Today.

Mets Police Podcast tonight at 6:30

Good morning Mets fans,

A lazy Sunday mid-holiday weekend so I will take it easy on the blog again today (traffic was off by half yesterday!).  I have some articles from across the intertubes to share and we are still doing the podcast at 6:30.   I think we’ll lead off with “Who should manage the Mets next year?” and see where else life takes us.  Call in at (917) 889-2723

I still haven’t broke in the new computer – I need to install picture resizers and zip utilities and such….and the keyboard is bigger so believe it or not it makes it harder to type!   Maybe today some progress will happen but Mrs. MP is working and I have these kids screaming at me.

When I do catch-up I am sitting on a bunch of emails, I never did get back to Angel’s yearbook collection (plus he sent me another collection that I haven’t even touched yet), Walt sent over an uni…

…wow even mid-sentence the new computer reset to do one of those handy Windows Updates.  That’s how the blogging week has gone.   Now Media Goon is probably wondering why I didn’t buy a MacBook.  I spent enough money this week to type about Mets uniforms…it’s crazy enough as it is….

…as I was saying Walt sent over the unistandings, will get those up as well.

I didn’t see a single inning all week.  Caught a little Howie but not much.   Is is March yet?
