Wally Backman Interview (Video)

….and we’re back.

Earlier today the site NUKED…lost all the posts from the last three years.   That sucks.

However, Scotty worked some magic and we’ve traveled back in time to a simpler age…August 24th to be exact…a time when Jeff Francoeur was a Met and nobody have ever heard of Mike Nickeas.

All those posts you think you read over the last 7 days?  All those comments?  Never happened.

While we reboot the systems here’s a new video of Wally Backman for y’all to watch…

By the way, GoDaddy has excellent customer service.

Jerry’s words suggest he knows

Good morning Mets fans,

I spent the night walking on the wild side in the Bronx – nothing notable to report other than $23 parking, sheesh – but as I do the rounds this morning, the words of Jerry Manuel are telling me that he knows he won’t be back.

Jerry was very good and honest on WFAN yesterday afternoon, basically saying that of course Wally Backman, Tim Teufel, Ken Oberkfell and…something like ‘who was that other guy they brought in (Bob Melvin) all want his job.  Very honest.  He also said he wanted the job for 10-15 years. (Check audio via MetsBlog)

Let’s look at Jerry’s choice of pronouns in other interviews:

Times: “I think they are going to have to find a place to play for this young man at the major leagues next year”

NJ.com: “I mean, these guys [Atlanta] are bringing in a young player like [Jason] Heyward. Some say the guy tonight, the first baseman, [Freddie] Freeman, is the best player in the International League. So that’s two tremendous young players that this franchise is going to be facing for the next how-many-ever years. And whomever is sitting in this seat, or whatever, will be facing for the next whatever years.

In the News, Bitter Bill nails it:  But, unlike a year ago, we don’t really have next year to look forward to.

Anyway, as the Times tells us, you don’t want to be part of David Wright’s card game. Or maybe you do.  I wonder if DW could ask Castillo and Perez to join him.

Mockup of 2011 Mets Patch

We had an interesting discussion yesterday about 2011…

Should the Mets celebrate the “50th season of Mets baseball” in 2011 or save it for 2012 and the “50th anniversary” and instead focus on the “25th anniversary” of 1986?

In 1986 the Mets celebrated the 25th anniversary of the franchise (in the 25th season).

Time will tell, but in the meantime Steve has mocked up the patch below which I think is fantastic – it mimicls the original patch from 1986 and would look good on a white pinstriped jersey with no dropsadow…but for that to happen I am going to have to win SuperLotto tonight AND convince Fred to sell me the team so that I can make the MLB cutoff for jersey revisions.

Steve is quite skilled in fonts and mockups as we shall see once I catch up on some emails he sent me…

Curse of the Mets Player’s Choice Jerseys

A quick recap of the Player’s Choice Signature Series.  The following jerseys have been made over the past two years.

Frenchy jersey

Carlos Beltran jersey

Jason Bay jersey

Jose Reyes jersey

John Maine jersey

Gary Sheffield jersey

Players that should be careful:

Bobby Parnell jersey

Johan Santana jersey

Anyone wanna bet that in 2011 they make an RA Dickey version and he goes 3-11 after signing an extension…and can we get Ollie to design one?
