THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS HOME: The Next Seaver, Matt Harvey, retires 16 games under .500 with a career ERA 4.42

Famous baseball pitcher Matt Harvey, called by many “The Next Seaver” because Mets fans never overreact, has retired,

On Instagram, The Dark Knight said he ” pitched to win. To fire up my team and more importantly, to fire up the fans in a city that I’ve always loved.”

“With all the amazing memories came a lot of injuries and tough times,” Harvey wrote. “The realization that those amazingly powerful moments that make me thrive as a pitcher and help my teammates and city win are no longer possible.

“Believe me I wish I could have done more and brought more of those amazing moments back to life. I have to say this is my time to say thank you, and goodbye.”

Matt chose Cinco de Mayo, perhaps because of his known love of Mexican food.  Long time fans of The Real Deal remember that he once overslept back in 2017. Page Six had reported

The “Dark Knight” was celebrating a late Cinco de Mayo at 1Oak until 4 a.m. Saturday — just hours before he failed to show up for a game at Citi Field, reportedly because of a “migraine,” sources said.

Harvey — who makes $5.1 million and is 2-2 with a 5.14 ERA this season — rolled up on the velvet rope club “with his boys” at about 1 a.m. and settled into a private table, the sources said.

The star pitcher threw back a triple play of top-shelf booze, including Armand de Brignac “Ace of Spades” Champagne, Don Julio 1942 tequila and Belvedere vodka, witnesses said. (via Page Six)

After leaving the Mets, Harvey bounced around, including a stint with the Anaheim Angels of Los Angeles where then General Manager Billy Eppler thought it was a good idea to pay Matt $11,000,000 after a season in which TDK was 7-9 with a 4.94 ERA.  Matt rewarded Billy’s wisdom with a 3-5 season and an ERA of 7.09

Matt’s final stats line 50-66, a 4.42 ERA and 687 strikeouts, leaving him more than 250 wins behind Actual Tom Seaver.  He finishes with an average WAR of negative 0.1 meaning you might be slightly better off with me pitching out there.

We here at Mets Police would like to thank Matt for all the downloads and easy jokes, and hope that he becomes best friends with Pete Davidson and eventually dates a Kardashian or Meghan Markle.

THAT’S WEIRD: Mets’ Max Scherzer had bad start following suspension

You may recall that Max Scherzer was ejected from a game at Dodger Stadium (home of a team he used to play for) because the umpires thought he was up to something, which is a ridiculous notion – of course all believe Max when he says was not cheating.

Anyway, with the suspension now served, Max was back and HEY THAT’S WEIRD

Yellow Mets cap?

I bought a capI bought a cap for youAnd all the things you do
And for some unknown reason it was Yellow

Hmmm: Is hockey better than baseball now?

Hi.  Casual hockey viewer here.  You know, the mythological viewer that networks dumb down their telecasts to placate.

I haven’t watched much hockey the last, oh maybe a decade or so, because (a) I am not really a hockey fan and (b) YouTubeTV doesn’t carry MSG and (c) I found the Devils broadcasts on MSG to suck once Doc Emrick left.

My hockey fandom mainly is based in rooting against the Rangers so that Cousin Mediagoon can be unhappy.

Thus, I have been enjoying Devils-Rangers, especially last night.

For starters, wow hockey looks great on my new TV.  (Stop buying baseball tickets and get a new TV).  I watched on the ESPN+ app and it looked really fantastic.

There’s a scoring opportunity every 4 seconds.   It’s fast and colorful.

We watch for like half an hour, then we get an 18 minute break to squeeze in half an episode of something (say Barry or Last Week Tonight)….then back to more action.

I was thoroughly very entertained all night.   Now, will this hold up if I watch Devils-Blue Jackets in December?  Maybe not.  (And I think a series is more fun than a random one-off on a Tuesday night) Last night it was fun!!!!!

What I CAN compare it to is the baseball playoffs – you know, the thing that happens now after 6 months of pretty meaningless games narrated by Gary Cohen so that we can eliminate a few teams?

Whereas Hockey gave me constant action – I kept thinking about the experience of watching baseball playoffs.   Fighting to stay awake (so the West Coast fans can watch) and an endless stream of faceless relief pitchers.   fighting to stay awake.  Multitasking on my phone so that the ADD keeps me awake.  Fighting to stay awake.  Another pitching change. Fighting to stay awake. Another pitching change. Fighting to stay awake.

So I am here to suggest to you – that although it’s been terribly marketed since the day after the Rangers 1994 parade – hockey may be better than baseball right now.

Oh, and we were done by 10:45 even with an 8:15 start.
