I wasn’t there for the concert, I saw no fight

To clarify, as there is an article out there which is confusing some folks, I was not there for the 50 Cent concert.  I left around the 5th or 6th inning, I don’t remember.

While I was at the game the crowd was becoming less enjoyable to be around.  I did personally experience people jeering in the back rows of 514.  I did not enjoy their company so I left.

I did not see any security from my seat, including looking around from my vantage for red shirted security to complain about the folks in my area.  If there is a readily available customer contact number, I am unfamiliar with what it is or how I should have proceeded.  I just chose to leave.

I did see folks with beer cans walking around while I was there. I even saw Media Goon with a beer can at around 3:30pm, although he was quietly enjoying his beverage.

I did not see any fights on Saturday.  I also did not see anybody eating a pretzel, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

Media has been inquiring about the fight videos that are circulating.  I know nothing about them other than my link to the Gothamist post.

I was more pissed about the ice cream.

Suggestions:

Have someone make a fun “don’t be a douche who ruins other fans good time” video and show it.  I think the Phillies have one if I recall.

If there is a customer service number/email/text/tweet address then post it frequently during the game.

And across the board for all sporting events, take a closer look at your alcohol policies.  It seems to me that it’s always “drunks” who ruin the fun.

41 Amazin’ ideas for the Mets #19: Autograph Sundays

MetsPolice Omar Minaya Autographed Ball

Here’s what we’re doing. We are crowdsourcing 41 ideas for the Mets. The ideas can be big or small. Email me your idea at [email protected]. Today’s idea is from Brian aka @meyerbr22

My idea for the Mets would be along with Family Sundays, have autograph Sundays. I was thinking two different ways of doing this.

One way would have two – five players be picked each week to line up along the home dugout. It would take place around the time of batting practice and each fan must choose 1 of the selected players to have them autograph an item so it doesn’t get to crazy. The players would change each week so if a family goes to every Sunday game (13 i think) they would be able to get everyone on the teams autograph.

The second way is pretty much the same format but have the Mets select “players of the week” based on performance. If Mejia has a few big saves or Wright has a game winning HR they would be chosen that week.

I think this is a good idea because one of the most exciting parts of going to a game is the chance to get a foul ball or to get an autograph. I think this would engage the fans and make them have more of a connection with the team. As well as a memory that would last forever, creating life long Mets fans.

*May have to have an age limit to avoid autograph seekers from selling the items.

Stephen had also sent in a similar idea..

Hi Shannon,

Here’s my idea, stolen directly from the Nationals (and I believe the Royals and Minor-League teams). Why not do a Signature Sunday?

The team would hand out vouchers for early arriving fans on Sunday and the Mets would have 2 or 4 players signing autographs for roughly 25 minutes, say from 11:30pm to 11:55pm. Usually the Mets don’t take BP on Sundays anyways or it’s rare since the Saturday’s are night games). Plus that’s around the time Mets BP would be over.

You could do 2 pitchers ( a starter or two that’s not on a throw day, or even a reliever who is not pitching), a utility player and maybe a starter who is getting the day off.

It would encourage people to get to the ballpark early, and with time to kill between the autographs and game time..you might sell some more concessions.

You could even do it everyday with a pitcher like Minor League teams do. It sounds terrible to be referencing Minor League team ideas for a Major League team, but after all Minor League teams make their money based on fan experience.

Thoughts?

Queens Baseball Convention 2015: What would you like to see?

QBC bigger

Hi gang, it’s about 7 months until we will gather again for QBC ’15. I thought I would give you a mini-update and pick your brains about some things.

I can tell you I had an exciting meeting that could lead to some bigger things.

I can tell you I spoke to some folks about getting more players to attend.

Maybe the date slides a week earlier or later, maybe not (this year was January 18th).  I can argue it both ways, but one of the considerations will be the availability of guests and had we moved it last year there were some additional opportunities.

We are considering some sort of Early Bird ticket.  You would benefit by getting a cheaper admission price.  We would benefit by having some additional funds to grab more players.

We are considering variants on how we handle the autographs.  I think we may do “admission gets you two guys free, but if you want those other guys over there, that will be an additional fee.”  That allows those additional guys to make the additional funds that gets them to come to the QBC…and then we can have them on panels etc.

What would you like to see at QBC 2015?  The Mets crowdsourcing has been excellent..let’s try that here too.

The boring television product that is the New York Mets

homer asleep

Last night on twitter I declared that I was turning the game off because I was bored.

I expected folks to tell me that I was not a real fan or something, but nope….everyone agreed that was the right call.

The Mets are becoming unwatchable.

There is nothing to tune in for.

The best player is having his worst season. The only guy with any pizzazz is out for the year (and still hasn’t mastered pizzazz vs annoying.)

Last night’s booth was professional. Nothing wrong with it. But it was yet another Keith Hernandez-less telecast, so no spark. Keith brings the fun with his disdain for even being there. There are nights where the only thing getting me through are Keith’s sighs.

I’m finding the Mets are becoming a burden.  Oh man, the game is on and I have to watch?  Many years I will feel that way around August 20th before rallying and savoring the few games left.

This…this is something else.

This isn’t frustration about losing…it’s boring.

It’s homework.

I will still tune in, but I’m not enjoying it.  How are you guys feeling about this wonderful product?

At least we had meaningful games in May.
