42 Mets at Walter Reed today

Via @adamrubinespn

Mets had 42 people at Walter Reed. Only two absent were Taylor Buchholz and Frankie Rodriguez, who arrived in DC with permission today.

Mets PR person made a point to volunteer the info to reporters.

K-Rod only gets to see his kids twice a month, and a scheduled visit with them conflicted with voluntary Walter Reed visit.

Buchholz was in Philly, also spending the day with a 5-year-old son he hardly ever gets the chance to see.

Now me, I have kids.  If I didn’t get to see them often and there was an off-day from the main job and my boss asked me to go to Walter Reed…I would have to pick my kids.

I know this was a free-for-all topic last year, but this shouldn’t be this year.

And if it does become one, let’s change the tweet to “Only two absent were Ike Davis and RA Dickey, who arrived in DC with permission today” and see if people are still mad.

Link: Uni Watch on Mets and soda

I know I’ve been having a back and forth love-fest with Uni Watch (and what’s wrong with that?) since we both are you know obsessed with that topic I’m trying not to do today…but Paul Lukas has an awesome Coke vs. Pepsi marketing discussion today..and guess which the Mets are?

…it’s almost like the Mets said to themselves, “Okay, we’re never gonna out-Coke the Yankees, so we may as well embrace the Pepsi approach.” That’s how the Mets ended up adding black throughout their design program; it’s how they…..

…oh that rant isn’t even close to finished.  Click through.  Plus the soda stuff is terrific.

April 2011 Mets attendance tracker

Walt sent over his monthly (unofficial) Mets attendance tracker.  If you click the link a nifty pdf will open:  Mets_2011_Season_Home_Attendance-April

Again these numbers are unofficial and contains some civilian opinion.  I leave it to you to decide if Mets Police is accurate or not.

Here’s Walt:

Once again, I have for you Mets home attendance, by game. With series, and homestand totals & averages. Along with season compilation, and projection.

As a new twist I have included hyper links to each games ESPN box scores. I am sending it as a pdf to maintain the  page formatting, it got jumbled a few times last season.
As I did last year, I’m using the attendance numbers released to the press post game (available at the bottom of each box score).
While this April had three less ticket dates than last, average attendance (ticket sales) is down 7.7% (’10: 31,346 ; ’11: 28,834).

Projected annual  attendance is down 9.9% (2,306,793) compared to 2010’s total attendance (2,559,738 {compiled from by game reported attendance}).
