Mets doing weird Bobby Bonilla stunt because I guess the sponsor paid them

The Mets want press for this for some reason so OK sure.  It’s going to get a lot of pickup so I might as well Also Me this content.

Anyway, I imagine the Mets got paid to promote this and if that’s what they want to do…sure why not celebrate one of the least liked players in team history.

Bobby Bonilla invites you to celebrate his special day with an Airbnb stay at the Mets’ Citi Field

  • This Bobby Bonilla Day, Bobby is heading up to the plate to host an Airbnb stay at Citi Field, in the ultimate Mets doubleheader
  • For just $250, this Amazin’ overnight will be available to four lucky guests
  • Starting on July 8 at 12 pm ET, Mets fans can request to book one night at Citi Field on July 28

It’s Bobby Bonilla Day — and for the first time, the New York Mets are inviting fans to take part in the July 1st excitement!

Today, Bobby is back to work, this time as the Host of a stay at Citi Field like never before, available on Airbnb. Bobby and the Mets are inviting four lucky Mets fans to experience a night at the ballpark that will leave them with that bottom of the 9th, walk-off homerun feeling.

“As a born and raised New Yorker and a longtime player in the city, there is a special place in my heart for Mets fans and it’s wonderful to see the faithful back in some green seats in Queens,” Bobby said. “This year, I’m joining in on the fun, trying on a new glove as an Airbnb Host and hopefully giving a few folks the night of their lives at Citi Field.”

The team has curated a major league-quality experience for guests at Citi Field that will have them yelling “Let’s play two!”

That’s right, guests will be able to watch both a day and a night game, while belting out Take Me Out to the Ball Game from their own VIP suite and enjoying limitless ballpark hotdogs and drinks. And there are more than a few extra innings to this experience.

If you’re looking to add some MPH to the ole’ fastball, you can stroll down to the Mets gym for a workout and a shower before hitting the hay in the suite. That practice may be needed, because you’ll also step right up to the mound and throw the ceremonial first pitch before our night game on July 28.

You may be sleeping in a ballpark ready to welcome 42,000 fans, but you can rest assured that your stay will be private, and in accordance with our Safe at Citi guidelines.

Any fan of the Amazin’ Mets who wants to spend a night at Citi Field can request to book this one-night stay beginning on Thursday, July 8th at 12:00PM EST at airbnb.com/mets.*

And for those who too have their own unique space to share, learn more here about how you can join Bobby in becoming an Airbnb Host.

LGM!

*The one-time, one-night stay is not a contest. Fans can request to book this one-night stay for up to four guests on July 28, 2021 for just $250, plus fees. Booking opens July 8, 2021.

Matt Harvey pitched against the Astros. How did he do? You’ll look!

Someone’s gotta pitch, and Matt Harvey is somebody and the Orioles are like sure….why not…..

Harvey Days is filmed before a live studio audience.

The Orioles were up for like an hour in the top of the 1st, but finally it was Bat-Time and TDK had a 4 run lead before he even started.  What could go wrong?

Jose Altuve is up but the garbage can is broken and SIT DOWN SON.

And here’s Brantley.  You know what you can do Brantley?  You can SIT DOWN SON.

It’s a 1-2-3 first for TDK and we’re on to the second!

In the second? Another 1-2-3.  This is weird.  Matt is perfect through two!

And…another 1-2-3!   Come on Matt, how am I going to make fun of you?

Matt’s perfect game ends after 10 batters with a single….

…and you guys know what happens when Matt lets a runner on base, right?   It’s another single!   Look at Matt’s face.  He knows doctor…he knows.

And then ANOTHER single…4-1 now…

And now a man in an Orioles t-shirt wants to tell Matt something…

I’m pretty sure that’s not a uniform @MLB, but hey it’s your rulebook not mine.   The advice works for one out but then Matt gives up ANOTHER single and it’s 4-2.  Hey, at least none of that was a 500 foot home run right?

And Matt gets out of it.  4-2 after 4.

In the 5th…a walk…and Brandon Hyde has finally learned!  He is asking Scotty how much time he needs to fix the engines…Scotty needs 5 minutes.

So Hyde sends the MAN CLEARLY NOT IN UNIFORM MLB to kill som time.

But nobody is ready somehow – Hyde, have you not been at Matt’s stats, this is the 3rd time through the order.  Jim Palmer has been warning about this on TV for an hour.  Even Matt knows…

And Matt walks the next guy….

And here comes Hyde.

And it’s a long sad walk to the dugout for The Dark Knight.

It’s time for Matt and I to go to bed (separately).

4 and a third.  Only 2 runs, both earned.  4 hits, 2 walks, 4 Ks.

The line score looks better than the reality.   What have I always said about Modern Harvey?  He is fine until he isn’t.  You saw that tonight.

But good news Bat-fans….SOMEONE has to pitch, and sometimes someone is Matt Harvey.

MATT HARVEY WILL RETURN

Sterling or Scully: Gary Cohen calls a rare Pete Alonso Home Run

I haven’t checked in on Gary’s PBP for a while.  With Pete Alonso hitting a rare HR (his 12th!) let’s see how Gare is doing.

So here’s the problem Gary. I want to give this call a good grade because the ball is obviously gone off the bat. However the call has a fatal flaw. You said the ball is outta “here.” But the ball is on DC an you are in NYC.

So you’re forcing a catch phrase Gary. And you know who forces catch-phrases? No, not Vin Scully. John Sterling forces catch phrases. And thus there can only be on grade here.

VERDICT: Sterling

Gary – WHY do you force the coach phrase? Do you think it is beloved? Do you think Darren is going to make Outta Here T-Shirts – well that’s not happening since you obviously have an issue with him since you’re the only announcer who doesn’t acknowledged the T-Shirt Army to the point that you go SILENT when the telecast shows them. Are you planning on writing an Outta Here book some day? I don’t get it. You don’t need it and you definitely didn’t need to say it every time. Be better Gary. It’s a net negative to you game.

While we’re doing HR calls, here’s another from Gary Sterling.

Now I don’t know what’s wrong with Gary but since like 2019 I feel like he doesn’t see the ball well. And I get that he’s calling this off the monitor but you know what, I am watching it on twitter and I can see that this isn’t “toward the wall.”

Gary, how the heck is this “towards the wall” – look at this ON THE MONITOR LIKE I AM.

That’s a terrible call Gary. That’s an announcer on auto-pilot saying the words he always says. Be better.

VERDICT: Sterling

Checking in on Pete Alonso’s 2021 Numbers

On June 28th 2012 Ike Davis was batting  .172 with 10 HR and 41 RBI

Pete Alonso is batting .261  with 11 HR and 36 RBI

Alonso is tied for 69th in HRs with the recently released Albert Pujols (.269 11 and 28)

Pete is just 15 off the MLB Home Run Leader Vlad  (26)…and just 14 behind NL leader Tatis.

It should be pointed out that Vlad and Tatis don’t play with those new balls that don’t travel as far, nor do any of the 68 players who have hit more than 11 HRs.  Only Pete is a victim of these new baseballs.

A wise man once said “Trade High”

Too nice out to waste on The Big Zero Mets game notes June 27th

One of the Five Aces, Zack Wheeler faces the Mets today.  In olden times we didn’t have a billionaire to bring us free agents and da Black Edge in our uniform game.  Now tell me Picard, on the Mets’ roster, how many aces do you see?

There are FIVE aces

Zack Wheeler returns to Citi Field for his second start at the ballpark this year…He has made three appearances against his former team this year and is 0-1 with a 4.73 ERA (seven earned runs/13.1 innings) with two walks and 12 strikeouts… The Georgia native made 126 starts for the Mets and went 44-38 with a 3.77 ERA with 270 walks and 726 strikeouts from 2013-2019…He is 19-24 with a 4.16 ERA with 132 walks and 372 punchouts in 62 starts at Citi Field… Wheeler was acquired by the Mets on July 28, 2011 from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Carlos Beltrán.

One of the new aces The Big Zero will try to last more than an inning while touching his cap, rubbing the ball, then wiping his pant leg. and being checked by umpires.

Marcus Stroman is set to make his 17th start of the season and his ninth start at home…He is 6-5 with a 2.31 ERA (22 earned runs/85.2 innings) with 21 walks and 75 strikeouts this season…Before his injury shortened start on June 22, Stroman made eight straight starts of at least 6.0 or more innings, a career-best.

EASTBOUND AND DOWN: Stroman is set to make his fourth start against the Phillies this season…He is 2-1 with a 0.53 ERA (one earned run/17.0 innings) with three walks and 14 strikeouts…He has made six starts against the NL East this season and is 2-2 with a 2.22 ERA (seven earned runs/28.1 innings) with eight walks and 26 strikeouts

VULGAR PETE ALONSO is batting .252 with 11 HR and 35 RBI.  On this date in 2012 Ike Davis .175 10 HR 41RBI.   That’s weird.
