The Best and Worst Uniforms of All Time: The New York Mets | HardballTalk

Craig Calcaterra at NBC Sports is going through each team’s best and worst uniforms.  If you like my writing you’ll love his.

But while the blues may look terrible, I’ll go with the blacks being the actual worst. Why? Because they were obviously calculated to sell product whereas those blues were just the Mets getting on the multi-color 70s bus a bit later than everyone else

Michael’s proposed Mets cap compromise

In the comments Michael wrote:

In the spirit of compromise, how about if the Mets wear blue caps like these

Shannon:  No way.  We almost ran Fred out of town for honoring a great man.  He’d get killed for the Dodgerness of this one even though it is in fact a 1936-39 GIANTS cap.   Can’t do it.

Michael: black caps like these

Shannon:  Well, yeah….if there must be black OF COURSE this is the way to do it.   I even own and wear this cap sometimes.   For you Piazza Generation’ers, this is a 1947-57 NY Giants cap.

It seems like Michael had some other good ideas but the links didn’t work for me (when I got around to this a week later)….he did like this uni combo….Michael, send me a guest post to [email protected] and just embed all the images.

Rusty Staub for the Hall of Fame?

Rusty Staub is one of the players being considered by the Veterans Committee.

Most of you are too young to remember Rusty but at no point up until yesterday did my brain ever consider for a second that Rusty might be a HOFer.

I never once thought that I was watching one of the best there ever was.

I’m not even sure that Rusty would make my Hall of Garvey (where players like Garvey, Mattingly, Keith Hernandez and Andre Dawson* belong.)

….

Carton is all worked up about Charliegate and talking about cashing checks for players. Are they just getting around to it on a slow morning when all the locals are off, or is there news that nobody is tweeting, blogging, or printing?

I guess I should read Moneyball
