Mets’ Acting Regional General Manager Z. Michael Scott on life after Boston

MassLive spoke with Mets Acting Regional General Manager Z. Michael Scott who was reflecting on moving to the Queens Office after years in Scranton and Boston.

Scott talked about seeing some of the old crew this week.

“It wasn’t that weird, to be honest,” Scott said. “I was more excited to see people like (assistant GMs) Eddie (Romero) and Raquel (Ferreira) and (manager) Alex (Cora), some of the players and other folks. (But not Toby, that guy is the worst).

Scott, these days going by “Zack” to craft a new image said

“My kids, for a while, were saying they were not going to wear Mets gear,” Scott said. “I think I even remember, my daughter — we were talking about the Mets and she was walking away — and she just said, ‘Red Sox for life!’ which was amusing. That has turned a little bit. I think they still like their Red Sox gear and I’m not making them get rid of Red Sox gear.” (via MassLive)

Alex Cora is a big fan of Scott’s.

“He’s in a good situation with the Mets,” Cora said. “I know he has made some moves already that have benefited that team. He’s going to keep working hard ….”

That’s what she said.

Mets vs. Phillies Game Notes for April 30

INF José Peraza was optioned to the team’s Alternate Training Site following Wednesday’s game.

LHP Daniel Zamora has been recalled from the Alternate Training Site and will be active for tonight’s game.

As @mediagoon already has a Zamora jersey he did not head to Modell’s.

Marcus Stroman takes the bump tonight for the Mets…it is windy out, hopefully he will not throw a tantrum on the mound again.

The Mets are 7-1 when scoring four or more runs this season…The team is 2-9 when scoring three or fewer runs…this teaches us that one of the ways to win baseball games is by scoring lots of runs.

Pete Alonso | INF | .250, 5 HR, 12 RBI, 0 SB

Francisco Lindor | INF | .203, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 0 SB

Dominic Smith | INF/OF | .203, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 0 SB

Game notes for April 28, 2021 6:40pm deGrom Day vs. Boston

deGrom’s ERA is 0.31.  That’s insane.

Tonight’s game is suspiciously at 6:40pm which is when all games should be.   The Mets’ next series is in Philadelphia, and in traffic that can sometimes take almost three hours travel time, so the Mets will play early tonight and then take tomorrow completely off because batting once an hour and standing on grass in ten minute increments is exhausting, especially when you haven’t been off since Monday.

The One True Ace is tonight’s pitcher. Jacob deGrom has 2.00 ERA over his last 80 starts since the start of 2018…That is by far the best mark in the major leagues in that span, more than a half-run better than the next-closest pitcher (Justin Verlander is second with a 2.56 ERA since 2018)…Since 1969, only three other pitchers have held an ERA of 2.00 or lower over an 80-start span – Greg Maddux, Clayton Kershaw and Pedro Martinez.

Jacob deGrom has the highest strikeout rate among all qualified pitchers, whiffing nearly half of all batters he’s faced this season (49.5 percent)…Meanwhile, tonight’s opponent, the Boston Red Sox, strike out less than half as often as a team, boasting the fifth-lowest strikeout rate in the majors (22 percent)…To compare, deGrom has nearly as many strikeouts (50) in his 29.0 innings pitched as the Red Sox offense has in their last six games (51).

Pete Alonso’s Last Game: 0-4, 4 K but let’s face it, all we really care about is his defense.

Pete Alonso | INF | .250, 5 HR, 12 RBI, 0 SB

Dominic Smith | INF/OF | .217, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 0 SB has been TERRIBLE.

The Piazzas purchased the home for $10 million in 2008, so selling it turned out to be a financial home run. The price equated to $1,589 per square foot. (via BizJournals.com)

No word on if Mike plans on spending time in the United States or if he will resume living in Italy.
