Should the Mets go political and wear Los Mets jerseys in Arizona?

I stand by my ground that I can’t stand the Los Mets jerseys.  Why?  They make no sense.  It would be like wearing jerseys that say “The Mets.”  The teams in the Mexican League have jerseys that say “Tigres” not “Los Tigres” so I’ll use that as my argument.

However, JMP threw out something very interesting in the comments yesterday:

I think that it was a reasonable level of protest for the Suns to wear their Los Suns jerseys last night, and I think that it would make sense for the Mets to use their Los Mets jerseys when playing the Diamondbacks as a quiet protest that wouldn’t disrupt the games. (I hate them as much as you do, but as a means of protest, I’d give them a pass.)

Before we get all political, Los Suns is even stupider than Los Mets.  I know that there’s a Spanish word for sun (“Sol”) and although I’m no Spanish expert I bet there’s a way to pluralize it.

However, we can argue that another time.

I also don’t want to debate politics, immigration, law, or any “hot-button” issues.  This is just a dopey blog written by a fat guy who has a man crush on Lee Mazzilli and wants the Mets to wear blue caps – let’s keep it that way and take the Arizona argument elsewhere.

What is interesting is JMP’s suggestion.

The Mets don’t play the Diamondbacks until July 19th but wouldn’t it be mighty interesting if they took the field in Los Mets jerseys.

I can’t figure out who decides what the team wears, but what if a few prominent players asked if they could wear Los Mets?

Of course, it would be the black road jersey which stupidly says Mets on a normal day, otherwise they’d have to make up some Nueva York jerseys (which makes sense and would actually be cool civilian wear).

Wouldn’t that be mighty interesting?  I bet it would get noticed.

Again, let’s keep this discussion to whether or not baseball should be political, this is not the forum for a political debate.

Mets Police Tumblr

I added a Tumblr link to the main page.  I don’t know too much about Tumblr but it seems like it will make my life easier in some ways.

For example, the other night I was walking through Target and saw some stuff, so I did what I always do and took some photos.

Normally, I’d have to come home, connect the phone to my computer (or email myself), “shrink” the photo (large photos slow down the site), hope Mrs. Mets Police stops talking  and then write a post.  Tumblr should allow me to walk around anywhere (even games) and snap off pictures or video or audio comments and just post them off my iphone.

You will also be able to submit pictures or articles – which could speed things up for all of us.

I still have to figure out how to set it up to allow you to comment on the main metspolice.com, since the back and forth discussion is what I’m interested in.   If anyone knows or has an idea, please let me know.

The other thing on my mind is that the page is starting to look busy and I may drop some elements but not sure what.  I’m open that I make a few bucks off the Stubhub ad so that won’t be going.

I was a bit of a comments slacker today – will try to catch up tomorrow.

The Tumblr is just www.metspolice.tumblr.com

I’m also @metspolice.com on twitter

Anyway, I thought I’d try it out the Tumblr for a week or so and see how it works, or if it siphoning from the site.  The goal is to make the experience better for you and for me.   Bed time.

Even two more fan designed Mets cap ideas

Hi Shannon,

Couldn’t resist jumping into the latest alternate cap conversation. Here are two incredibly simple ideas, neither involving black. The first is to just outline the orange NY logo in white. The second is to take the all-black hat and make it blue, keeping the logo exactly the same–blue, outlined in white, with orange drop shadow. Of course, since both involve white, both would clash with the away grays… But we could do worse than having to wear the classic cap on the road.

Laurence

Personally, I like the attempt – but I see no reason to mess with the traditional cap.  As for the cap with the blue NY I bet it would look nice on a civilian, but on TV I would have the same problem I have with the hybrid.  You wouldn’t be able to see the NY.

Thanks to everyone who is sending things in – I am actually writing this on Wednesday night and intended to get through the emails but my eyes are getting heavy and a lot came in.  That sentence barely made sense.  Time for bed.  Anyways, your contributions are tremendously appreciated, please keep them coming.  [email protected]
