Mets in jerk move rain out game right before gametime

I feel bad for anyone who traveled all the way to Citi Field and maybe even paid like $30 in tolls…only to have the Mets decide right before 12:30 that they didn’t feel like playing.

I don’t know if this is the Stroman Effect or if they just want to be tucked in their Colorado Hotel Rooms nice and early, but they sure wasted everyone’s time.  YOU KNEW THE FORECAST GUYS.

Poor Keith Hernandez – 4 hours in the car for nothing.

P The Guy Who Never Wins

Following last night’s game, the following scoring change has been made: In the top of the second, J.T. Realmuto reached second on what was originally scored an error by Dominic Smith…That has since been changed to a double.

The Mets finish their first homestand of the season today…The Mets are 4-1 on the homestand so far…The Mets have won three straight for the first time in 2021…It matches their longest winning streak in 2020 (August 17-19 and August 26-28)…The Mets are a season-high two games over .500…It marks the first time the team is two games over .500 since the end of the 2019 season (86-76)….The Mets will play one more game against Philadelphia before hitting the road for a six-game, seven- day road trip to Coors Field followed by Wrigley Field.

JACKIE ROBINSON DAY: Every major league manager, coach and player will #42 today to commemorate the Anniversary of Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson breaking baseball’s color barrier in 1947…MLB retired Robinson’s number throughout the Majors in 1997 in ceremony at Shea Stadium and every player and all on-field personnel has worn his Number 42 during games scheduled on Jackie Robinson Day since 2009..

Of course it’s idiotic to NOT wear names on uniforms on the one day everyone wears the same number.  Uniforms should never have names, but if they have to have names TODAY IS THE DAY TO DO THAT.   And that’s how the blog started.

The Mets claimed their first series win of the season last night…The team is looking for their first sweep of the year…The Mets have never swept the Phillies in a four game series in New York…The last time the Mets swept the Phillies in a four game series was from August 24-27, 2015…New York’s last four-game sweep came at Citi Field against Arizona, September 9-12, 2019.

In his first two starts, Jacob deGrom has utilized his fastball more than he ever has before…His 76.6 percent usage rate of his fastball on Opening Day was by far the highest in any start of his career (previous high was 64.4 percent in his August 26 start last season vs. Miami)…In his most recent outing, he again used his fastball more than 70 percent of the time…His fastball has averaged 99.1 mph this season, the fastest in the majors (min. 100 FB thrown).

Among all major league pitchers with at least 50 career starts in day games, deGrom’s 1.80 ERA during the day is by far the lowest all-time…The next-best daytime ERA belongs to Eddie Cicotte (2.22)…Clayton Kershaw is the next-closest active player (2.39 lifetime ERA in day games).

Is this guy deGrom even any good?  He never seems to win baseball games which is the entire point of playing.

Dominic Smith is batting .298/.360/.568 with 64 runs, 32 doubles, a triple, 23 homers, 73 RBI, 33 walks and a .928 OPS in 147 games since the start of the 2019 season…This includes a .292/.375/.506 slash line against fellow southpaws and a .300/.355/.587 mark against right-handers.   Dom had an OPS over 900 last season but wasn’t allowed to start on Opening Day 2020 or 2021.

Peter K. Alonso finished the spring batting .340 (17-50) with six doubles, four homers, 16RBI, six runs scored and a 1.121OPS…BUT GUESS WHAT METS, NONE OF THAT COUNTS.  He is now hitting like .210 or so with ONE HOME RUN.   The Mets couldn’t’ even make up enough stuff to fill the game notes without talking about Pete’s spring.  It’s April 15th guys.

Happy Harvey Day.

Pete Alonso says he missed the boos

Vulgar Pete Alonso who is batting .207 with 1 home run said, “I missed the boos.”  – he was talking about playing in Philadelphia and about playing in front of crowds but I will use the full quote I want.

Well Pete, if you miss the boos, keep batting .207 with 1 HR, 5 RBI and 10Ks.  For you millennials that’s an OPS of .673 and a POLAR (K/PA) of .294

Pete had a great Spring Training according to the media who do not seem to understand how Spring Training works what with the other team bringing their B-squad and pitchers working on things, but anyway it was great!

Kinda boring Mets game notes for April 14, 2021 vs. Phillies

Tonight’s Lineup-Safe Lineup.

  • 8 Nimmo
  • 6 Lindor
  • 7 Dom
  • 3 Vulgar Pete
  • 4 Jeff
  • 9 Conforto
  • 2 McCann
  • 5 Guillorme
  • P Governor Peterson

This lineup has been confirmed to me by Mets insiders…you’re good to run with it.

The Mets continue their first homestand of the season tonight after sweeping a twinbill against the Phillies yesterday…The Mets are over .500 for the first time this year…With a win tonight, the Mets would secure their first series win of the season…The team is 3-1 so far during their current homestand…The Mets will play two more games against Philadelphia before hitting the road for a six-game, seven-day road trip to Coors Field followed by Wrigley Field.

Pete Alonso led off the eighth inning of game one of yesterday’s doubleheader with a game-tying RBI single…Alonso has a .688 slugging percentage in extra innings in his career…That ranks eighth in the majors over the last three seasons (min. 15 extra-inning AB)… His five extra-inning RBI since 2019 are tied for the ninth-most in the majors.

The above paragraph completely ignores how much he is striking out and that he only has one home run.

Zack Wheeler returns to Citi Field tonight…The Georgia native made 126 starts for the Mets and went 44-38 with a 3.77 ERA with 270 walks and 726 strikeouts from 2013-2019…He is 19-23 with a 4.16 ERA with 131 walks and 366 punchouts in 61 starts at Citi Field… Wheeler was acquired by the Mets on July 28, 2011 from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Carlos Beltrán.

Mets’ Pete Alonso’s Road To 50 HRs: April 14th update

Hey guys.  Many of you penciled in Vulgar Pete Alonso to hit 50 home runs this season, let’s check in on his stats so far.

Pete is batting .231 but who cares, batting average is for old people.  Let’s add a bunch of numbers together to make a bigger number and call it OPS!   His OPS is .756.

His OPB is .333

He has struck out 9 times in 28 plate appearances.  There’s probably some term for that – I’m gonna call it a POLAR – his Polar is .321  (He has a career Polar of .304).

But the number we all really care about are HOME RUNS BABY.

One.

But hey none of that matters, HE HAD A GREAT SPRING TRAINING.  The media told us about it every day.  A really really GREAT SPRING TRAINING.

Plus it’s only 7 games.   They will play seven games 23 more times and if he keeps up his pace of one home run every 7 games he will hit 23 or 24 home runs.  Plus he’s bound to get hot and double his pace and wind up with….oh wait that’s still only 48 not 50.

The boos will come before July 1.  I am here.  I am looking you all in the eye.  You all know where to find me.  But when the boos come, be prepared to kneel before Zod.
