Game notes for game Mets will probably cancel anyway PSYCHE

The Mets claim they will actually continue their first homestand of the season today…New York opens up a four-game series against the Phillies…The Mets went 1-1 against the Marlins before their Sunday game was postponed due to rain…Following this series, the team hits the road for a six-game seven-day road trip to Coors Field followed by Wrigley Field.

The Mets will add LHP Stephen Tarpley to the roster for both games today as the 27th man…Tarpley, 28, went 2-2 with one save a 9.00 ERA (11 earned runs/11.0 innings) in 12 games with Miami last year…He was claimed off waivers on January 8, 2021…Tarpley had three holds and posted a 5.68 ERA (four earned runs/6.1 innings) in six spring training games.  Media Goon is on his way to Modell’s to get a Tarpley jersey.

Dominic Smith has recorded a hit in all four of his games this year..and it might have been 5 but he wasn’t allowed to play Opening Day because reasons.  .Since the start of the 2019 season, Dominic Smith owns a .298/.362/.569 slash line with 63 runs, 32 doubles, a triple, 22 home runs, 70 RBI and .931 OPS in 143 games.  He is the team’s best offensive and defensive first baseman but has to play left field.

Smith owns a .292/.356/.569 with 14 doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 21 RBI in 46 career games against the Phillies…again you might want to start him in Opening Day VS THE PHILLIES.   It’s his highest batting average against any team in the division…He has recorded 23 extra-base hits against Philadelphia, his highest total against any one team…This includes 17 extra-base hits since the start of the 2019 season, tied with Ronald Acuna Jr. for the second-most in that span.

Currently ranked #1 favorite Mets player Taijuan Walker made his Mets debut in a quality start vs. Miami…Walker tossed 6.0 innings, allowed two runs, earned, on four hits with two walks and four punchouts…He did not allow a hit until the fifth inning.  He will start today’s first game.

My 26th favorite Mets player, The Big Zero, will make his third start of the season, unless it rains I guess, and his second against Philadelphia and his second in three days…which is true but kind of stretchy true….Threw nine pitches in a game suspended by rain on April 11 versus Miami at Citi Field, allowing one hit in 0.1 inning…In his first start of the season, Stroman earned the Mets’ first win and picked up a quality start on April 6…Pitched 6.0 innings, allowing three hits and one run against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park… Induced 15 ground balls and allowed only one batter to lift the ball into the air… Walked two batters and struck out three in his first regular season start since Septemer 27, 2019.

Pete Alonso is 0 for his last 9

Must Read: two Barrett Sports Media articles about how broken baseball is

Here’s a must read from Barrett Sports Media (thanks Sporty for the link!!)

After the Seattle Mariners lost to the Chicago White Sox 10-4, acclaimed Seattle Times Larry Stone columnist tweeted some scary numbers. “83 total plate appearances, which included 25 Ks, 9 BBs, 1 HBP & 3 HRs,” he wrote. “So 46 % of plate appearances resulted in no balls put in play. And it took 3 hours, 45 minutes. Unsustainable.” (via BSM)

which led me to THIS article titled NO STARS, OLD FANS: BASEBALL HAS REAL PROBLEMS.…hey that sounds very familiar, doesn’t it?

In about 20 different sports radio markets, I have proposed a challenge. Come out of a random commercial break and play a generic sound-byte from baseball’s best player, Mike Trout.  Give a T-shirt to the first listener (not the 9th or 10thcaller) who recognizes his voice.

..

On a different day, try the experiment again. Play a sound-byte from any of the following five former players. Sammy Sosa, Derek Jeter, Barry Bonds, or David Ortiz.  Would anyone listening NOT recognize their voices instantly?   (also via BSM)

I encourage you to read both articles.  The first one mentions the hypocrisy of the Texas Rangers not having Covid restrictions for the opener but THEN doing it.   BTW I tweeted this this morning – in the county in which the Rangers play, cases are up over 40% in the last 14 days.  THAT’S WEIRD ISN’T IT?

Anyway, it’s nice to hear someone else screaming about all this which increases the chances of you guys once again coming round and realizing I was right all along as always.

Fwaidy cat Mets afraid of a widdle rain and Marcus Stroman

Ooooh we better over-think things and rain the game out early so Marcus Stroman doesn’t yell at us.  THE INMATES ARE RUNNING THE ASYLUM.  GET CONTROL STEVE!!!!   Let’s play some baseball this season!!!

METS-PHILLIES POSTPONED TONIGHT

Game Rescheduled as First Game of Single Admission Doubleheader

Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 13 at 4:10 P.M.

FLUSHING, N.Y., April 12, 2021 – The New York Mets have announced that tonight’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies has been postponed due to inclement weather. It will be rescheduled as the first game of a single admission doubleheader, tomorrow, Tuesday, April 13 at 4:10 p.m. The second game of the doubleheader will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game, but no earlier than 7:10 p.m, as if a baseball game would ever be played in two and a half hours.

Both games will be seven-inning contests. Tickets for tonight’s game will NOT be valid for admission to tomorrow’s doubleheader.

Fans with tickets and parking passes to today’s postponed game will automatically receive a credit in their “My Mets Tickets” account in the amount of the face value of their paid ticket and parking pass for today’s game. Fans can apply the credit value of today’s tickets and parking pass toward the purchase of a ticket to any 2021 regular season Mets home game (excluding the September 10-12 Subway Series vs. Yankees) or to any 2022 regular season home game played on or before April 12, 2022 (excluding 2022 Opening Day), subject to availability.  If such an exchange is made for a higher priced ticket, the credit will be applied toward the price of the higher priced ticket.

Complimentary tickets to today’s game and those marked “NO RAINCHECK” have no value and do not constitute a rain check.

Mets thumb nose at @MLB, promote apparent rules violation

The Mets apparently don’t care about MLB or their stinking rules.  From where I sit, it looks like The Mets break rules AND promote the rule breaking!

Baseball fans know the rule well…

(Note at some point they renumbered the rules, I can’t remember which is the current one.)

Although we can’t see the face on the uniformed individual, it does appear that it could be Pete Alonso.

In the photo the person, possibly Pete, looks like he could be addressing some spectators wither before, during, or after a game.

While on the subject, I have noticed several instances of players from opposing teams fraternizing on the field, obviously in uniform.

Will baseball investigate this incident that the Mets have promoted?  Does MLB not care about this rule?  What other rules does MLB not enforce? Perhaps we could play ten or even thirteen defenders since some rules aren’t enforced.

I hope MLB plays serious attention to this matter in timely fashion!

Some notes to prepare you for the April 12, 2021 Mets game

Dom Smith owns a .292/.356/.569 with 14 doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 21 RBI in 46 career games against the Phillies…It’s his highest batting average against any team in the division…He has recorded 23 extra-base hits against Philadelphia, his highest total against any one team…This includes 17 extra-base hits since the start of the 2019 season, tied with Ronald Acuna Jr. for the second-most in that span.  That said, sometimes the manager doesn’t start him on Opening Day against the Phillies.

Last season, Peterson led the Mets pitching staff with six wins..unlike that bum Jacob deGrom who never wins games.  Governor Peterson is one of six rookies in franchise history to finish the season as the team’s win leader…Tom Seaver (16 in 1967), Jerry Koosman (19 in 1968), Mark Bomback (10 in 1980), Dwight Gooden (17 in 1984) and Dillon Gee (13 in 2011) are the others…Courtesy of Elias.

Last Game: 0-4, 3 K

Streak: 0 for last 9
