Baseball almost gets it right, markets player, then of course ruins it

So I was scrolling down twitter and I was like – HEY, this is cool!  Look at this!  Baseball is promoting its players!  Here is a player I had never heard of and now I know his name!

I decided then I would enthusiastically share this on the blog as its the sort of thing that MLB needs to do.

Then…..sadly……I noticed the sponsorship which is where I have crossed it out.   And I got sad.  Of course baseball can’t just grow the sport, they have to monetize every single inch of everything every time.  Would they have even done the tweet had some salesperson not bundled in some “additional value” into a package (We will include you in tweets!).   My guess is no.

So there is nothing pure about this.  Baseball doesn’t care about you Mr. Ramos…you were just today’s means to a sponsorship.

Now let us hear from the great Tom Petty.

If you reach back in your memory
A little bell might ring
About a time that once existed
When money wasn’t king
If you stretch your imagination
I’ll tell you all a tale
About a time when everything
Wasn’t up for sale

There was no use in pretending
No magic left to hear
All the music gave me
Was a craving for lite beer
As I walked out of the arena
My ears began to ring
And money became king

Mets Announce Roster Moves, unfortunately none involve Pete Alonso

My friends the Mets sent me a press release and I was kinda hoping it was going to say they traded Pete to Seattle for Kelenic or Chicago for Kris Bryant or South Korea for somebody, but it did not.  Maybe next time.

Mets yet again don’t play Dom Smith in LF? WHY NOT? WHAT’S THE TRUTH?

Hey look, another day has gone by and the Mets aren’t giving Dom Smith, the everyday LFer who will be playing out of position, any time in LF during a practice game.  THAT’S WEIRD.

I will continue to ask and continue to be shouted down:

Are the Mets incompetent?

Is Dom Smith hurt?

Which one is true?

Why isn’t the beat paying attention to this?

If you are going to play a guy out of position you should at least let him practice the position.   Unless he’s hurt.  Or the Mets know a DH is coming.  (Sandy Alderson was on the rules committee, I am not sure if he still is, and I have actual work to do.  I’m not actually a full time beat reporter even though most days I do a better job in five minute stints from my basement or while grilling chicken.)

It has been so long now I can’t even remember but I think the pattern has been DH, no game, DH, 1B, did not play, and now DH again.    Are his legs bad?

How do you people not see this is suspicious???????

What’s the story Mets?  Come clean.
