Should Citi cancel Andrew Hall’s $100 million pay and $400 million Mets deal? (AOL Daily Finance)

Daily Finance on AOL asks about that naming rights deal.
From the article:  What bothers me is that Pandit appears less embarrassed about pouring out $400 million of shareholder money to put Citi’s name on the Mets’ new stadium while his company holds $45 billion in Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) money, $306 billion in loan guarantees — and posted a 2008 loss of $27.7 billion.

Nothing really new, but Mets news is hard to come by these days.

Terror Threats: How Much Stadium Security Do You Want?

FBI agents on Saturday night arrested a reputed Al Qaeda terror cell operative who researched baseball stadiums on a personal computer that also held interior maps of several New York venues, sources told the Daily News.

I don’t say this lightly and I don’t mean for this to be in my usual sarcastic trivial style, but I find this an interesting discussion.   How much are you willing to put up with in the name of safety?   As for me, I’d rather live in an open society and take my chances.   I’d like to walk up to the gate and scan my ticket and walk in.

So let me ask you this….how much safety do you want at a stadium event?

Do I want to be killed at a game?  Of course not.

However, do I want to go through annoying bag security?  No.   Even worse, the absurd bag restrictions at Yankee Stadium?  No way.

Do I want to take my cap off when entering Yankee Stadium to prove I’m not hiding a bomb?  No I don’t.

Do I like to turn my cellphone on at Yankee Stadium to prove that it’s actually a cellphone?  No I don’t.

Would I want to pass through a metal detector to enter Citi?  No.

Do I like the pat-downs the Citi guards do now?  No, I don’t.

Would I want to have to take my shoes off?  What if a shoe bomber bought a “Saturday plan” from David Howard and shows up at Citi Field Wednesday night to use his “Saturday” tickets?  I’d rather keep my shoes on.

What about the 7 train?  Should they check every bag there too?   Maybe we could all wait on a line after the game to make sure everyone passes muster.

The world changed on 9/11…and stories like the one in the Daily News remind us that there are still bad guys out there.   However, I think we have to keep on living our lives.   Hopefully the news won’t scare the stadiums into adding on layers of inconvenience….and being honest, sometimes I think 9/11 was used by stadiums to encourage us to visit the concession stands rather than bring a sandwich in in a bag…and I’m not doing schtick…take a look at the 2008 Yankee Stadium sunblock ban in the name of terror prevention.

Let Hojo Finish The 2009 Season As New York Mets Manager, Starting Now

I propose to you that there is no point in letting Jerry Manuel finish the season as manager.

Never mind the injuries, I think September has been a disaster.   I see a team that goes out, loses, and then the manager tells me that the team battled.   An article in the Times compares it to the last days of Art Howe (if I knew how to re-caption those Hitler “Downfall” videos that are all over Youtube I would make one.   Watch this one if you haven’t seen it.)

Ownership needs to make a gesture, even a small relatively meaningless one, now.   Change managers.   Let it be known that 5-13 in September is unacceptable in any year, even if I’m pitching and you’re the starting shortstop.

I would like to see Howard Johnson manage the team the rest of the way.

Do I think Hojo is destined to be a great manager?  No.

Do I want Hojo to manage the team in 2010?  Probably not, unless he surprises me with an amazing finish and new attitude in the clubhouse.

Hojo would change the story, and that’s what the team needs right now.   Let one of the ’86 heroes guide the club, even if it’s only for two weeks.   Give the faithful something to root for.

The more I think about it, the more I can’t imagine the Mets bringing back Omar, Jerry and “the core.”   These last six weeks have been about more than injuries.  Every aspect of the franchise is failing, from front office to fan relations to on-field performance.

Change the stink.  Change the story.   Let Hojo run a lineup out there for two weeks.   What’s the worst that happens, the team loses 10 of 11?
