Don’t Miss: Audio Of Francesca’s Wilpon/Minaya/David Howard New York Mets Interview

Try this link and/or poke around WFAN.com and make sure you don’t miss Mike Francesca’s very long, very thorough and pretty good interview with Jeff Wilpon, Omar Minaya and my favorite Mets executive David Howard.

It was reassuring to hear Jeff Wilpon say that they won’t just sign free agents in the name of marketing.  That’s very reassuring to me as that was one of my main worries.

I was sad that David Howard still doesn’t get the (ahem) “sightline issues” (aka obstructed views), but I’ll cover that in the morning.

SI: Mets Likely To Give Backman A Minor League Job

So so so much going on today….thanks to Tom for sending over this story from SI which suggests Wally Backman may get a minor league job with the Mets.

The team now appears willing to give scrappy fan favorite Wally Backman a second chance to return to baseball in a minor-league job. Backman has technically not been given a new position yet, but he’s been told they’d like to hire him and have invited him for an interview that is expected to be a formality.

How about handing him AAA as they once did a manager-in-waiting named Davey Johnson.

Which reminds me…wanna feel old?   Remember 20 seasons ago when Bud Harrelson managed the team?

David Howard: Fans overreacted to sight line problems

Francesca asked Dave Howard what the biggest complaint from fans was.
He said sightlines, said it was mostly early and that fans overreacted.

I welcome comments from the readers.

New York Mets Hall Of Fame Coming!

I missed Jeff Wilpon on WFAN but I will refer you to the link below –
the Mets will add a Mets Hall of Fame.

Check out this post: http://www.metsblog.com/2009/10/05/note-jeff-wilpon-and-omar-minaya-on-wfan-at-5-pm/

Jeff also talked about the whole Dodgers thing and Omar talked about
the Latin players topic that tends to come up.

There's likely to be a run of tweets coming up from the beat guys.
Will forward on @metspolice.

Being honest I'd like to think my dopey little blog helped a little in
getting the museum.

Video: Jeff Wilpon Talks To Chris Carlin; Reyes Surgery; Wally Back?

SNY does many great things but they don’t have “embed” technology so you’ll have to click here and give them the page hits they so desperately crave if you want to hear Jeff Wilpon’s plan for the future.

I know I now feel more confident now that the major coaching problems at first base are solved.

Note the quote: “We’re going to have one of the highest payrolls in baseball” – they can come down and still have that.

At least Jeff appeared, I will give him that.

Also, Metsblog updates that Reyes will have surgery but maybe not what you thought.

Finally on twitter:
NYPost_Mets The Mets confirm an SI.com report that Wally Backman is being considered for a coaching position in their minor-league system next season.

Busy day!
