Citi Field’s Ebbets Club renamed Champions Club

Peter who often sends me stuff dropped me this email ([email protected])…and I want to be perfectly clear that I’m just cribbing baseball fever here, good job outta them!

The “Ebbets Club” has been renamed the Champions Club.  If you search the A to Z guide on Mets.com you’ll find the Champions Club is listed under E.  Very interesting, it’s as if they are paying attention to criticism!

Shannon,

My friends at baseball-fever.com mention yesterday the Ebbets club has been renamed Champions club.

we hope the first base side can be for 1986 team and 3rd base side for 1969.

Champions Club – 1st Base and 3rd Base

Located on the Field Level and exclusive to Champions Club and Delta Club seat holders as well as Sterling Suite holders, the Champions Club, evocative of historic Ebbets Field, features high-end concessions, full bars, high-definition flat screen TV’s, and restrooms.

The Mets are doing a lot of good things.

Hopefully fixing those obstructions in the promenade could be the last piece to making citi field feel like home.

  1. Listening to criticism (I’d have preferred adding a Polo and Shea club/seats instead), or adding a sponsor?

Which reminds me, I always joked they should’ve named the place Ralph Lauren’s Polo Grounds.

  2. I love it. But if I see a Brooklyn Dodger jersey in the Team Store next year I will lose it. I know that not much can be done w the views (other than lower prices on the real bad ones), but they are making strides. I would like to see a blue wall someday.

  3. It will be “home” when the all the walls on the playing field are Mets blue. And the rotunda has more of a Mets feel (“home of the metropolitan baseball club” to go along with honoring Jackie Robinson. And I am going to keep on saying it till it happens!

  4. @aaguero9. lose it? lose what? who really cares if a dodgers jersey is in the team store. it’s pretty trivial. why don’t you “lose it” when the Mets play bad instead, or better yet just take a chill pill and have some fun regardless of the outcome of the game? It’s just baseball.

  5. Citi Apple Fields?

Just for fun I photoshopped a picture of Citi Field with orange walls (why does blue get all the love?). I’ll have to link it later.

  6. since when do the Wilpons know anything about “Champions”? If it were called the “Champs Club”, I’d think sponsorship with Champs Sports. I actually never had a problem with the Ebbets Club, as long as there was a matching Polo (Grounds) Club and Shea Club.

  7. To paraphrase Chris Rock: Ladies and Gentlemen of the Mets Nation of 2010, no matter what Fred Wilpon says, there is NO CHAMPIONSHIP in the Champions Room. NONE!

  8. Heh, thanks. “Oh, there’s food in the Champions Room. But you don’t want food, you want to see a championship! And there is NO CHAMPIONSHIP in the Champions Room.”

    (Let’s Go Mets anyway… I already bought tickets to 96 games :p)

  9. I don’t get all the criticisms about the blue walls. The black wall looks quite nice with the green seats, IMO. If they had a blue wall with green seats, green steel work and brick, it would look grotesque. Hopefully the painting of the stairwells, banner additions, Mets HOF, and clubs being renamed will appease the “It’s not Mets enough” crowd.

  10. i read a lot about that in the last few month and i imagine it might be true. Eventhough i believe everyone is responsible for himself. No Offense, Just my
