Name the 25 former Mets who managed in the majors

Interesting trivia from the Mets post-game notes:

METS THAT LATER MANAGE: Juan Samuel is the 25th former Mets player to become a major league manager…Since the Mets started play in 1962 the only other team with as many former players who became managers is the Dodgers, who also have 25 (also including Samuel)…Nine former Mets players have won at least 500 games as a big league manager: Gil Hodges, Don Zimmer, Joe Torre, Roger Craig, Bobby Valentine, Jim Fregosi, Bruce Bochy, Ron Gardenhire and Clint Hurdle…Thanks to Elias for the research

Hmm…let’s see, they gave us nine.   Who are the other 16…Lee Mazzilli managed the Orioles, Ray Knight the Reds, Larry Bowa was a Met, does interim manager Mike Cubbage count?  What about Wally Backman’s two days with Arizona?

Who can name ’em all?  No cheating!  Go…

  1. Some more:

Roger Craig, Buddy Harrelson, Clint Hurdle, Mike Jorgensen, John Gibbons, Larry Bowa, Bruce Bochy, and Ron Gardenhire.

  2. the only one I can add to whats been given is Jim Marshall…with all the above posts, the list so far is this-
Gil Hodges, Don Zimmer, Joe Torre, Roger Craig, Bobby Valentine, Jim Fregosi, Bruce Bochy, Ron Gardenhire, Clint Hurdle, Buddy Harrelson, Mike Jorgensen, John Gibbons, Larry Bowa, Yogi Berra, Roy McMillan, Dallas Green, Lee Mazzilli, Ray Knight, Mike Cubbage, Jim Marshall, Juan Samuel
Thats 21 (22 if you count Backman)…Im not counting Oquendo, I dont think he managed

  3. Hey Wally, you skipped Willie Randolph (how
quickly they forget)…BTW, what team did
    Jorgy manage?

  4. Geez, yeah I missed Willie… thats 22 (or 23 with Wally)
Jorgy took over for Torre when he was fired in St.Louis (had to be ’95?)

  5. Shannon, do you have the list of correct answers, and will you reveal them eventually, or do we have to figure them out for ourselves?

  6. Here’s the list I have so far:

    1. Joe Torre
    2. Juan Samuel
    3. Rod Gardenhire
    4. Gil Hodges
    5. Jay Gibbons
    6. Bobby V
    7. Roger Craig
    8. Jim Fregosi
    9. Don Zimmer
    10. Bruce Bochy
    11. Clint Hurdle
    12. Lee Mazzili
    13. Ray Knight
    14. Larry Bowa
    15. Mike Cubbage
    16. Buddy Harrelson
    17. Mike Jorgenson
    18. Yogi Berra
    19. Willie Randolph
    20. Jim Marshall
    21. Roy McMillan
    22. Dalls Green
    23. Al Pedrique

    If Wally counts, that’s 24

  7. Ken Boyer, Al Pedrique (managed D’Backs in 2004
after Brenly was fired). I confess, these two
are not from memory…I did some Wikipedia
    searching.

  8. Having read John’s post, if Wally counts (he was hired to replace Pedrique, but was fired
before he managed a game) then Boyer makes 25!
If Wally doesn’t count, we need one more!
