The war on black Mets uniforms has escalated

I’m fired up today.  Why? Because it is a lot of pressure on me to be the best driver in the tri-state area.   Whereas you are content taking four hours to get from say Brooklyn to Queens, I am cursed with the ability to maintain 55 in the rain, and an innate ability to sense that my exit is approaching.  (My eyes are able to see a shade of green called “SIGN” that many people cannot see.)   I also have the ability to ignore whatever is happening on the shoulder or tying up traffic in the other direction…

…so while I’m ticked off at the world, Matthew has to go and point out this to me…..here is Carlos Beltran’s fashion jersey and the official description from mlb.com

Carlos went with true Mets colors, using the black, royal and orange. The front wordmark and back name and number are printed twill, printed with an argyle pattern inside of the wordmark and number. The sleeve shows the Mets team logo. Screen printed on the front of the jersey is a picture of Carlos chasing down a fly ball. Screen printed on the back is an image of Carlos hitting, with the NYC skyline behind him.

WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT?  TRUE METS COLORS??? WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT?

A reading from the Book of Ruth, chapter 2.

Oh, the butcher and the baker and the people on the streets,
where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
Oh, they’re hollerin’ and cheerin’ and they’re jumpin’ in their seats,
where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
All the fans are true to the orange and blue,
so hurry up and come on down –
’cause we’ve got ourselves a ball club,
The Mets of New York town!
Give ’em a yell!
Give ’em a hand!
And let ’em know your rootin’ in the stand!
Come on and MEET THE METS,
MEET THE METS,
Step right up and greet the Mets!
Bring your kiddies,
bring your wife;
Guaranteed to have the time of your life
because the Mets are really sockin’ the ball; knocking those home runs over the wall!
East side,
West side,
everybody’s coming down
to meet the M-E-T-S Mets of New York town!
Of New York town!

I am off to go evaluate my feelings about who should play center field.  Thanks a lot Matthew.

  1. I really like Reyes’ jersey. Anyways, there still is orange and blue in there. Black has been with the club for over 10 years now. Is it such a bad thing? Nah. How many times did the NY Giants change their colors? At least the Mets have kept their original colors whereas some teams ditch them completely. Rays, Giants, Astros, D-Backs, Dodgers and Mercury Mets. I’m at peace with the Black, I see it as incorporating NY Giants Black. Not a problem in my eyes. We ain’t the Yanks.

    1. I totally agree with you Yvaithe. Mets have kept their original name too (unlike the Superbas/Bridegrooms/Robins/Dodgers, Gothams/Giants, or Highlanders/Yankees). I’m thinking Shannon is loving the one by Jeff Francoeur though.

  2. I will say this from now until the “cows” come home. The Mets’ colors are ORANGE (NY Giants) & BLUE (BKLN Dodgers). End of story. The home uniforms have PINSTRIPES…thank you Howie, keep up the pressure with those calls…POWER OF THE PINSTRIPES! NO BLACK & NO DODGER Uniforms EVER!

  3. I agree.. the Beltran (and Reyes)jeresys are horrible, and aren’t even original. Now the Frenchy jersey… I dig that one.

  4. While we are at it, where is the “WAR” on the black outfield wall? Again, the wall should be that really dark blue the Mets advertise now with which is the same color of the seat chart signs. That with the orange HR line would make CitiField more closer to feeling like home again.

Shannon also can you start to ask around why the green turf was removed from around the apple right after the Georgetown game? I know it probably had to do with effecting the batter’s eye, but something needs to be done. Just to plain and boring. Ivy? A really dark green turf?

  5. The black and orange wall is great…….for the Orioles and SF Giants!!!

At Citifield just too many colors. Green seats, dugouts are green, blue and black. Walls black and orange. Blue and orange are what is needed. Can deal with green. Black vinyl everywhere and on uniforms just doesnt fit.

  6. And to give CitiField that old stadium feel what about signs that are made of metal/tin like Ebberts had.

    1. Of course, the “old stadium feel” would have people smoking in their seats and chewing tobacco too. Some things in the modern world actually are an improvement.

      1. How about some warm, flat Schaefer beer & cold hotdogs on stale buns with cheap yellow mustard
        Now that’s some old school
