A big-time Mets event without Tom Seaver?

seaver button metsI thought Tom was noticeably absent today.  I think I saw he was just at Citi like two weeks ago (remember the coffee picture?) so maybe it was as simple as not wanting to fly cross country again.

Anyways. it was odd to have a big time franchise event in Queens without the franchise.  I know Generation Piazza loves their hero but there’s no comparison to me.  If the torch is being passed I will have some adjusting to do.

  1. my first thought went to Tom Terrific’s health (since he had some issues last year), but I forgot about his appearance at the ballpark a couple of weeks ago. you could be right that he just didn’t want to fly cross country like that. It’s not like Seaver doesn’t know Piazza. Seaver was in the WPIX booth for almost all of Piazza’s tenure with the Mets.

but if there’s a passing of the torch, I would think that he’d be part of it with Piazza before stepping back.

  2. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. I can see why Seaver would not have wanted to fly cross-country just to be introduced and wave to the fans on a day that was really about Mike Piazza.

  3. Hey Shannon, where were you today for the last game? You were busy right? Just travelled back home from the secret mission? Mrs. MP and the MP kids has stuff to do that involves you too right? Maybe Mrs. Seaver had something to do and Tom couldn’t get out of it…hmmmmmmm
