Report: Blue Mets caps in Baltimore

From everything I hear, Baltimore has been invaded by Mets fans.

Howie said they expected 40,000 tonight – which is interesting because John Sterling said there were 16,000 the other night.   Tonight’s a weekend and you can’t trust too many of John’s descriptions but still….

Here’s Christopher on the scene:

The Mets fans in town for the weekend series here are like a defacto Blue Cap Army. Very few black hats and a ton of blue fitteds. 28,000 at game last night and at least 10k+ were for the Amazins. Every bar, hotel, and attraction last night and today has been full of Mets fans. In three years here, never even saw this many visiting Yankees/Sox fans.

More about the Backman video

Got a nice note from John from Playing for Peanuts.   Since I’m finishing off connecting wires at Newly Refurbished Mets Police HQ and I’m about to go on a media blackout so I can watch soccer at night (never waste sunshine and warmth on television.  Never. Oh and ABC should just stream the darn game on ESPN3.) …where was I…oh yeah John sent me a note and in the interest of time, Control-V is cut and paste:

The media reports made it seem like wally ran upstairs and assaulted the broadcaster in a rage. we had video to prove he walked up, waited for a few minutes till the postgame show was over and then he dropped some F-bombs, turned around and left. he wasn’t physically confrontational and the GM didn’t break up a fight… in hindsight it seems like a trivial thing, but that incident was misreported and no one was interested in seeing the footage of what really happened, until now.

just wanted to point that out. i agree with you – it wasn’t something i ever wanted to see or get involved in, but it happened and i feel like i should at least try to explain what was actually happening before/during/after…

i put up all the videos relating to the incident here: http://playingforpeanuts.com/

that video player has fan reactions (positive and negative), wally’s thoughts immediately after the ejection, etc.

keep up the great work! your blog is great.

Santana Bashers?

Yesterday as I explored other media I heard a shocking amount of people complaining about Santana.

Yes Pelfrey and Niese had a great week, but I don’t understand why there is Santana panic.

Let’s take a look at a few starts….

June 10th…4 runs in 6 2/3 in a loss.   The guy is human.

June 2nd.  ZERO runs in 7 innings.  5 hits.

May 28th.  ZERO runs in 8 innings.  3 hits.

May 23rd.  1 run 6 hits in 7  and 2/3

May 18th.  2 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings.

May 13th.  1 unearned run and 6 hits in 7 innings.

May 8th.  A 5-4 win…7 2/3 and 8 hits.

May 2nd the 10 earned run disaster against the cheating Phillies.

WHAT DOES THIS GUY HAVE TO DO TO PLEASE YOU?

Santana forever earns my respect for his performance that last weekend at Shea.

If the Mets go to game 163 I’m handing Johan the ball even if Pelfrey goes 20 and 1.   This guy has earned my trust and respect.

Old video of South Georgia manager Wally Backman yelling at reporter

Sometimes walking the Mets Police beat I run into a few things I’d rather not have found.   Over the winder there was Marital Scandal With 69 Mets Player that I let go, and even some of the Dykstra stuff I just don’t want to get into.

This one I will share because it’s just interesting. I too have been known to say “are you #@*ing kidding me?” at work – and did quite a few times this past week, so I’m not saying this should reflect negatively on Wally as he seeks his destiny as manager of the New York Mets.

However, I think you’ll find it interesting.  Not shocking, just worth watching.

Mets apologize to Jerry Seinfeld. Really? Really.

I have been trying to ignore Annoying Celebrity Who Did Dumb Thing At A Mets Game but now the Mets have gone and made me pay attention to it.

“We deeply regret that Jerry Seinfeld has been associated with this matter and have apologized to him,” the Mets said in an exclusive statement toRadarOnline.com.

“The use of Jerry Seinfeld’s suite was unauthorized and unknown to him at the time,” a team spokesperson said.

“We made a quick decision to place Lady Gaga and her group in a private suite because of issues related to her visit.”

You can read more and see a nice picture of Jerry possibly joining The Blue Cap Army in this article and New York magazine can catch you  up on the whole thing.

Kids, if you ever start a blog, the Mets are a wonderful subject.  You never know what you’ll wake up to.  I’m off for the weekly Unsponsored Dunkin’ Donuts run (guys, throw me a few bucks) so that their yummy coffee can wake up my blogger brain.  As a mercenary, I will happily mention your coffee on Saturday and never mention Dunkin’ again if you give me cash.  Well, and donuts.   And no I don’t want to buy a Yankee cap today, thank you that will be all.
