I had a great time today at Citi Field, the first Opening DAY in Citi Field history.  Last year those dopey Padres made the Mets have Opening Night in Dodger Stadium East….but a year later wow is everything great at the home of the New York Mets!

It was a perfect day to be outside, Santana on the mound, Wright homered, the Mets won.

The Blue Cap Army was a little smaller than I expected, but enthusiastic nonetheless.  I met several fellow bloggers and throughout the day had a few readers come up and introduce themselves to me.  It was great to meet all of you.

As I have been saying, the place really feels like the home of the Mets.  The franchise seems to have reconsidered blue and orange.  It appears in the marketing, and the use of black anything seems eliminated (until Charlie Samuels suits them up – and who were the people cheering Charlie in the intros?  The black cap navy?)

If you booed Ollie Perez in the introductions you are not my kind of fan.  I couldn’t believe it.  A perfect day and we’re going to boo this guy for lining up along first?   Come on fans.

I’m still jazzed on the Mets.   I’m going again on Wednesday and will do some, um, research at McFadden’s.  I never made it out there today.  They opened at 11 and were rumored to be overflowing with fans around 12:30.  If there’s a way to patronize the bar once you have formally entered Citi Field by scanning your ticket I was unable to find it.  I don’t think it exists.

I’m out on the deck and will be posting pictures for the next few hours – and will save some for tomorrow (back to the real job).   Check back regularly.

Wow I have been blogging for three hours and I’m getting sleepy…here’s one more set for y’all tonight.  I still have lots and lots of photos to go through, plus I haven’t even opened the one’s Media Goon sent (and he is a much better photographer) and I didn’t post any from the stores yes, more merchandise to comment on) and the Blue Cap Army hasn’t met yet, and Opening Day pics and….well, this should be a good week for content.

However, my eyes are getting heavy….

… but it was a great day.

Here’s a collection of shots of new things at Citi Field for 2010, most notably the Shea Bridge.

If you look at the photo gallery attached to this post (click “continue reading” if you are on the main page) those blue and orange speckles are the new paint job on the bathroom floor.

The Ebbetts Club has been renamed the Champions Club.

The children’s area has been reconfigured.   The dunktank is now where the batting cage was.  The videogame area is gone (or at least moved).   The batting cage is now behind the t-ball field.

When you enter the rotunda you’ll see today’s lineup posted above the escalator (using Topps cards).   The lineup used to be posted above concession stands along first and third – those displays now feature Met heroes of the past (enjoy my lousy photography).

This next section of pictures from the Mets Hall of Fame and Museum are from my “random” collection.  I’m trying to group things like Seaver exhibit, announcers exhibit and such.

Take a quick look at this photo.  What colors do you see?

My general feeling about Citi Field today is that the color black is being de-emphasized in the color scheme.

Next year is the franchise’s 50th season – might be a good excuse to go to a traditional look!
