Mets Jersey Watching in Baltimore

Big thanks to Chris who answered my plea for help this week (you guys know what I write about – if you can send in stuff to [email protected] it will make a travel week a lot easier.)   Chris knows that I like walking around the stadium sneaking up behind people and taking pictures of their jerseys…..Chris took the concept on the road.  Click on any image to make it bigger.

Not sure I remember seeing a Swoosh Cap before. (click on that one on the top left)

There’s also a great gallery of all his shots here.

Major Rant coming up at 10am.

Pat Zachry Day: June 15th

Oh the horrors.  June 15th means one thing to Mets fans.  That’s right, the day Pat Zachry joined the team:

“It’s not just the Seaver trade,” Zachry said. “People remember me because I was the pitcher in the Seaver trade.” The other players were infielder Doug Flynn and outfielders Steve Henderson and Dan Norman.

What few know, Zachry said, is that he was to be married later that week, a civil ceremony followed by a reception at the home of Pete and Karolyn Rose.

Instead, Zachry flew to New York to join his new team. He hopped back to Cincinnati on his first off day to marry Sharon and enjoy a dinner at The Maisonette.

“Been together 33 years now,” he said.

Megdal for GM campaign has started

Howard Megdal officially announced his campaign to be the next GM earlier today.

I spoke with Howard last week, and he assured me this is not an Omar Must Go campaign.  Rather it is to be the next GM, hopefully after Omar’s 30 year run and 29 rings (2023 is a nightmare.)

His declaration speech is below (it was stuttering for me earlier tonight, but that’s probably just because Mrs. Mets Police broke my computer).   Below that, some thoughts…

I thought it would be interesting to look at Howard’s issues page which calls for Logic, Transparency and Passion.

Transparency worries me.  Plexiglass is allegedly transparent and we know how awful that could be.

I’m also awaiting Megdal’s position on The Mazzilli Question.

There will be more about this as the months go by – including a primary election here on the MP and some Q&A.

I’d also like to know who else is running?

New Alternate Mets Caps for 2010 #14

This “TC Tonal Ace” cap looks ok in the picture, might even look nice on your friend Steve.  You do have a friend named Steve, right?

Anyway – this would look good on Steve unless he were actually a New York Met.  If he were a Met I would complain about the NY not popping much like I do about the hybrid.  It’s much better than the hybrid but suffers from a similar design flaw.  I can’t see the NY.   Sorry Steve.

Even more about what the Mets wear on any given day

Walt had this in the comments…too good to stay hidden.  (From Sunday afternoon)

The Mets do not wear black jerseys every Friday, they have only done so 4 time thus far this season. They went black on Fridays at home Apr 9, May 7, and Jun 4(all first Friday game of the month). They have gone for black Friday just once on the road, Apr 30, at Phillie (only road win in black thus far.

They have worn the hybrid on all home getaway days(5 for 5) Hadn’t noticed that before. The only occurrence of them not wearing the hybrid for a road getaway game was at Phillies on Apr 2, when they went black.
The Mets only wear black socks (belt and t-shirts too) on the road, and have since around the 2000 season. Though, they did go blue at Yankee stadium a few years ago, and I believe I read somewhere that MLB wasn’t happy about it, and may have fined the team(not part of their “official” road unis).

Also, Dickey wore socks, not stirrups Friday. Mets have only rarely worn stirrups for a long time(2000?). Last I can recall was some players wore stirrups last seasons final game.

Of course, If someone else has information that disputes my observations, I welcome it. I always have space in my internal hard drive for some random Mets info. I’ll just purge some needless memory of a youthful drunken mishap.

Isn’t it great that scientists developed the internet so we could obsess over this?
