Does Joe Torre to Flushing make any sense?

Some interesting things from Jayson Stark on ESPN:

“An exec” talking about Beltran: “every time he comes back and does play, the team seems to go right down the tubes.”  Ouch.

Stark also mentions this quote about Torre:  “I think he’ll be the Mets’ manager. New York is the place if he’s going to work anywhere after this year. And he’d be perfect for the Mets because he’d be their way to sweep everything under the rug.”

I think the day after Torre left the Yankees the Mets should have blown out Willie and brought Joe in.  It would have been a good gamesmanship move, and at that time I believed this generation of Mets was actually solid enough to win.   Silly me.

While Joe Torre to the Mets in 2011 would make for a fun day and half of newspapers and sportstalk, I don’t think it makes sense.

First of all, nothing makes me think the Mets want to pay “Joe Torre money” for Joe Torre.   His laid back style works with some situations, but I think this team needs a kick in the pants.   Man Up and Play Better, right?

The next manager will wear number 6, but it won’t be Joe.

Kiner’s Korner Revisited coming to SNY

Neil Best says that Kiner’s Korner is coming to SNY.  Newsday has that pesjy paywall, but Remembering Shea seems to have what appears to be the full story.

SNY’s programming schedule does not list it.

Kids, Kiner’s Korner was terrible.  Ralph is just not good.  However, it’s ours and it’s going to be an amazing thing to stare at in disbelief.

I still wish they’d make new Mets Yearbooks voiced by Howie – one of my goals for this weekend is to make “Mets yearbook 2007” if I get some free time.

Mets to limit Niese’s innings?

Good morning Mets fans…

Wow I’m tired today, and a little slow off the draw…but I am back from Unnamed Donuts Chain so that helps a little.

I read that the Mets are considering limiting future Hall of Famer Jon Niese’s innings. Normally I am opposed to such things but given the state of the season maybe it’s for the best.   I’m old school and think everyone should just pitch, but if there is something to innings count (and I’m not sure there is) then this might be the right situation to take it seriously.

Media Goon posted last night that Jason Bay was out for the season…then updated it when the Mets (as personified by Jerry) changed their minds.   One thing this organization does not do is change their minds.

If I get some energy I am going to write up a post called “The case for bringing Jerry back.”  It will be a stretch but I may try it.

Today is about sitting on the deck and getting ahead on some blogging things.

Bay Done For Season

By Media Goon

It seems that Jerry Manuel is saying Jason Bay is done for the season. Well at least we don’t have to worry about the four players for three spots in the outfield for the rest of the year.

You can get the whole story from Section 518. That is where I found it. Honor among bloggers as Shannon would say.

*UPDATE*

Now it is being reported that Jerry Manuel is going back on what he said originally about Bay being out for season.

Can someone in the Mets organization please check the medical staff’s credentials again?

And, can the Mets stop playing the game of telephone with what info is given to even their manager?
