Terry Collins lost a clubhouse?

Yesterday while between soccer games I recall reading a good blog-piece about Terry Collins.   I thought it was on Metsblog but I don’t see it now…anyway, what troubled me about Terry was a section of the piece that is similarly covered in the Daily News:

Collins, like Backman, is considered a strong-willed and fiery personality, but he hasn’t managed in the majors since 1999, when he resigned from his post in Anaheim after admitting to losing control of the Angels’ clubhouse. Former Mets first baseman Mo Vaughn reportedly led a mutiny of veteran players who complained about Collins to then-Angels GM Bill Bavasi.

The piece had a good breakdown of how the Angels did after Collins left, and was a little stronger about Collins losing the clubhouse.

I don’t know anything about Mr. Collins.  I hope he wins both the lottery and the NYC Marathon today, but I think even a hint of losing a clubhouse is not what this franchise needs.

If anyone knows which I’m referring to and can’t find please email me [email protected]  thx!

Crappy New York Mets Crap #6: Lastings Milledge Photo

Good morning Mets fans!

All seems quiet in Flushing today – the papers don’t seen interested in Sandy and Charlie.   Thus, I thought we’d kick the day off with some Crappy Mets Crap.
There you are in your den and you think to yourself, “Man, my Ryan Thompson poster looks lonely.”  For just $63, this gem can be yours.  After all, it was once priced at $110.  A bargain.

Best of luck to all the marathoners today.  Some more posts will roll out through the morning and I have some good stuff for tomorrow and the week.  For now…bagel-time.

Here’s hoping the new Mets equipment manager deals with Uni Watch

When I got home last night I took another look at the Uni Watch article and this really struck me:

I hope that person is more open to media inquiries in general and Uni Watch inquiries in particular, because it’s plain ridiculous that I haven’t been able to have a relationship with the equipment manager of my favorite team.

That does seem insane.  I could understand Wayne Hagin not returning Paul Lukas’ calls, but the guy writes about uniforms every day (well, 5 days), loves loves loves the Mets and even has a column on ESPN.   They should talk to this guy!

There is another

Good morning to all Mets Fans and especially all the new readers that joined the Mets Police this week.

Friends, Charliegate bothers me.  I have a bad feeling about this.

For the newbies…on Saturday I try to take things a little lighter since traffic is usually down on the weekend.  I think you’ll still find the content engaging, but I don’t do Important Stuff when nobody is looking.

On Saturday I head off to Unnamed Donuts Chain (the one that has great coffee) and always mention it.  Someday they will sponsor my blog.   Sometimes I do Actual Athletics, but right now I am at soccer with Junior…and he is today’s problem.

Yesterday I was in Sporting Goods Store and had a gift card.  I didn’t want anything so I let the kids pick what they wanted.  Beloved Daughter (she of the Black Mets Jersey – we can get into that another day) got some shoelaces or something.  Junior headed over to the caps.

He picked a Yankee cap.

Earlier in the week we were watching the World Series and he said when he grows up he wants to be on the Yankees.  For Free.

“What if the Mets give you a million dollars?”

He’d rather be on the Yankees.   Why?

“They always win.”

As you may know, every child born since 1996 is a Yankees fan.  This is not Fred Wilpon’s problem but it damn sure is going to be Jeff’s problem.  An entire generation gone.   Jeff better hope that (a) Sandy is as good as advertised and (b) there are as many frontrunners in this town as there were in the 1980’s.

So Junior got a Yankees cap.

Yoda: Told you I did. Reckless is he. Now, matters are worse.
Obi-Wan: That boy is our last hope.
Yoda: No. There is another.

A sister!

Yes Mets fans, there is another.  A sister.  A sister I believe never before mentioned on the blog.

Baby Sister picked out (on her own)….a Mets cap.

A Twins ’47 cleanup model blue cap just like the one her dad likes and wears.

As for Junior, he needs his Tom Seaver moment.  I met 41 as a boy.  I’m going to have to get Junior in a room with David Wright.
