Ike and the Ace

From the official post-game notes:

IKE DAVIS: Finished 4-4 and tied his career high for hits in a game, done twice before and last accomplished on September 5th at the Cubs…Also drove in three to give him 67 on the season and move past Steve Henderson for third place on the club’s single-season rookie RBI list…Davis tied Henderson for third place when he drove home Jesus Feliciano with a first-inning double to right…Moved past the former outfielder with a two-run single in the seventh inning.

DAVIS STREAKING: After his 4-4 effort tonight, Davis is six for his last seven…He has hit safely in 16 of his last 21 games and is batting .394 (28-71) with 12 RBI over this span.

MIKE PELFREY: Tossed 7.1 innings to win his 14th game of the season and set a career high for victories in a season…Pelfrey won 13 games in 2008.

MIKE PELFREY DOUBLE PLAYS: Threw two double-play ground balls tonight to give him 24 on the season…The 24 double plays during a single season tie Pelfrey for the eighth most in franchise history and leave him five behind his total from 2008 when he set the club’s all-time mark.

PELFREY AT HOME: Pelfrey improved to 9-3 at Citi Field this season and lowered his home ERA to 2.89 (33 earned runs/102.2 innings).

Unrelated – my favorite thing on the internet today was this Generic Blog Post from Faith and Fear.  Trust me.

Also unrelated – I was thinking about ramping down the podcast for the season and not even doing it but between WalterReedGate and Santana I assume we’ll find something to talk about.  Sunday 6:30pm.

Last week’s was pretty good and still holds up without being dated as we mostly talked managers.

The 1991 New York Mets Yearbook Cover

The cover tells you all you need to know about the 1991 Mets.  Hey let’s put fireworks on the cover!  At least they didn’t jack the price.  I don’t remember this cover at all, I was really into girls in 1991.  Now it’s 20 years later and I’m hiding in a basement typing about the Mets.  Isn’t life grand?

The Ace and his Mets lineup for Saturday

One of these days a lineup with Josh Thole as the senior Met will take the field.

Someone got a bargain from me on Stubhub today.

Saturday, September 11 vs. Philadelphia

Jose Reyes – SS
Jesus Feliciano – RF
Angel Pagan – CF
David Wright – 3B
Ike Davis – 1B
Josh Thole – C
Lucas Duda – LF
Luis Hernandez – 2B
Mike Pelfrey – RHP

Who is the Mets ace now?

Roll with me for a second.  It’s 2011 Opening Day and Santana isn’t ready.

Who gets the ball?

Game One of the Wally Backman Era.

A 36 year old knuckler?

Mike Pelfrey?

Future Hall of Famer Jon Niese?

Oliver Perez?  Dillon Gee?  Pat Misch? Jenrry Mejia? Hisonari Takahashi?  Any of  these free agents?

How do you market this?  I know I’m an emotional Mets fan but this morning all I see 2011 reminding me of 1978.
