Matt Harvey pitched against the White Sox! Was it his final MLB appearance? You’ll look

Well, as the world’s foremost Matt Harvey expert I was quite disappointed by last night’s rain out because today I had BIG TIME FAMILY STUFF and there was absolutely positively no way I could do a Matt Harvey recap.

Fortunately for us all, our old pal @nycsporty agreed to back me up with some quality coverage.  Thanks Nick…

The Orioles have spotted The Real Deal to a one run lead and away we go….

The leadoff guy doubles, Grandal strikes out (sit down son) but then Moncada (who?) walks and now the game looks like this!

And I think we all know how Matt feels about runners on base…

So what do you think happened? Abreu singles…

OK not THAT bad, and on to the second!

Vaughn singles to lead off the inning (uh-oh) but have no fear, The Dark Knight Is Here and it’s a 1-2-3-4 inning.

On to the third, and I think Nick has seen Harvey pitch before because he can see it coming just like I always do…

and then Jose Abreu steps in…

Well, at least you can’t even see the netting.

Matt will settle in here with the bases empty and he strikes out Mercedes and then Jake Lamb steps in and OH NO….

In the 4th, Nick Madrigal (who?) reaches on an error and here comes the manager….

And was that it? Did Matt Harvey’s career just end?

The Baltimore Sun does not sound hopeful.

“Got to get better in really all areas,” manager Brandon Hyde said.

Harvey, 32, was never expected to recapture the form that made him an All-Star starter and National League champion with the New York Mets, but the Orioles hoped he could be a serviceable innings provider behind John Means to stabilize what is otherwise a fresh-faced rotation. He seemed up to the task initially, but beginning with a four-inning outing in which he lowered his ERA to 3.60 because the quartet of runs he surrendered were unearned, he has failed to complete five innings in five straight starts. The Orioles have lost each, with Harvey’s ERA climbing to 6.84.

And what does Matt Harvey think about Matt Harvey?

“I feel good throwing every pitch, and things are really just not going our way, in general. I missed a couple pitches over the middle that really cost us and cost me today. The last two starts, I’ve felt like I’ve had much better stuff than I even had at the beginning of the season, so it’s just kind of one of those things that is extremely frustrating when you know you have good stuff, you’re just not really locating as well as you need to be and not keeping runs off the board.”

Oh wow, I actually feel bad for him. He thinks he’s almost good.  You aren’t Matt.  You are bad.  And when the weather heats up more and more of those 385 fly outs are going to fly out of Camden Yards.  This is only going to get worse Matt.

You can’t expect the Orioles to carry this Matt….

Unless the Orioles just don’t care and realize SOMEONE has to pitch on the way to 110 losses, so it might as well be Matt Harvey. Depending on how updated the standings I just googled are…the Orioles are 15.5 game out before Memorial Day, and on pace to win 53 games…so sure, maybe you do just let Matt Harvey pitch 4 innings every 5 days instead of paying someone else.

Matt got 9 outs on 86 pitches with pitch counts of 33, 17 and 36. Yikes!

3 innings, 5 runs all earned, 5 hits, 3 walks, SIX STRIKEOUTS BABY and a 3-6 record with an ERA of 6.84

It’s over Matty.

Chicago is a fun town. Hopefully TDK can find a nice burrito stand and wash away his sorrows in beans and cheese.

I’m disappointed I didn’t get to watch this as I think I had seen EVERY post-Mets start (maybe I missed one West Coast 10pm game and I didn’t catch all the bullpen appearances) so I have been very invested in this saga. I don’t want it to end! See you in 5 days? Someone’s gotta pitch…

So Steve….it’s time to dome the Mets.

Of the many things I find insane, I can’t believe the metropolitan area built two baseball stadiums and a football stadium in the 21st century and not one has a dome.

I am very much PRO DOME.  I have attended several games in Arizona and I will tell you, the dome is so high that you feel like you are outside anyway.  You don’t feel like you’re inside say the Garden, it feels like wide open spaces.

So Steve, what if you dusted off the plans for this….

Now I’m not sure how that would even work – I am no engineering wizard but “load bearing” and stuff – or how one could build this while still using it as a baseball stadium.   Looks to me like they’d have to rip open left field to which I say GOOD as left field is Citi Field’s biggest failure.

But then…maybe it’s time for something more radical Steve.  We have seen the Braves and Texas move on pretty quickly from their  new stadiums.  Citi Field is now in Year 13.   What if we said goodbye to The Wilpon Era forever and went back to something a little more Mets.  I bring you the Point 72 SheaDome.

Let’s do it Steve.  Let’s move back and to the left where the Mets belong.  Put the new mound where the old mound was.  Put first base where Buckner missed a ball.  Let’s go back to where the Mets should play, in the beautiful new Point72 SheaDome, complete with fancy squares on the outside design.

You would be a conquering hero Steve.   PLUS people could ALWAYS BE COMFORTABLE AT GAMES!!!   Why should someone have to worry about driving two hours for a rainout, or sitting out in the cold or rain or heat when we could all just be comfortable.  When I get Hamilton tickets I don’t have to stress at 5pm about rain.

Then we can knock down Wilpon Era Citi Field and make it a parking lot.  Plus the Wilpons will be annoyed that all their cool development on 126th/Seaver Way are now “far” from the stadium on the other side of a lot….but hey they are just in it for the affordable housing and the public school so I am sure they will be fine.

As for those of you who think Citi Field is great….is it?  It’s fine.  It’s a middle of the road modern baseball stadium.  What do you like about it?  I’ll give you a minute……

….about 500 of you said “We like wearing t-shirts on the bridge.”  Fine.  The Point72 SheaDome can bring the bridge and both Apples (even though nobody cares about the new Wilpon Apple.)

What else?   Did someone say The Food?   That’s your #2 thing you like?  Well the Point72 SheaDome will have food.

And can we all be honest here?  Ready?  The Rotunda?   It’s a bust.   It means well, and we all love Jackie Robinson, but it’s a bust.  It’s out of the way other than it being the place you walk through as quickly as possible to get to the escalators.  I am sure we can find a way to honor Jackie at the Point72 SheaDome.

Let’s do this Steve.  Start talking to The Mayor today and maybe we can get this done for 2029.

The first place 2021 New York Mets….who cares?

There is a scene late in the run of Battlestar Galactica that comes to mind this morning.

It’s late in the series run, and the Galactica has been on the run for a long time, trying to find the promised land.  For reasons I won’t bore you with, Adama has to transfer his flag from the Galactica to that of a Cylon (the enemies) ship.   And he starts to think, “What are we even doing?”   He’s spent all this time fighting the Cylons, and now he’s living on one of their ships.

Which brings us to the first place 2021 Mets.

I find myself feeling like Adama this morning, because….well….what are we even rooting for?

Are we going to look back with fondness of that summer of Cameron Maybin and Khalil Lee?   Remember that great summer of Patrick Mazeika and Billy McKinney?   Will Old Timers’ Day 2041 have Wayne Randazzo telling us “Please welcome back our old friend…Wilfredo Tovar!!!”

What are we even rooting for?

I’m aware of the Jerry Seinfeld joke about rooting for the laundry, and I have rooted for a lot of laundry over the years….but I am finding myself less interested in this first place team than any Mets team ever, and I go back to 1977.

There aren’t my guys.  They aren’t your guys.  Every 5 days Jacob deGrom shows up and it feels kinda sorta like my Mets….and then there’s 4 days of random people in Mets uniforms.

Even if these guys keep it together for the summer, I’d have to imagine that it won’t be Maybin and Lee playing every day in October, it will be some other guys like Actual Met Michael Conforto.  I hope.

Part of my disassociation has been the terrible schedule.  The Mets’ schedule and I are not meshing.  Every time I am free they get rained out, and they sure love playing weekday afternoon games.  Personally, I heard one pitch yesterday, and that was only because I was scanning through the radio stations in my car and heard a pitch before going back to music.

I don’t expect this article to be popular.  Nothing I write is popular.   That’s perfectly fine.    But I ask you…..the 2021 Mets…..do you actually care?
