New York Mets’ Johan Santana initially complained about shoulder, a person close to ace confirms

A person close to Santana confirmed Friday that the ace initially complained about his shoulder before leaving the game. Following that exit, the Mets announced the injury as a pectoral strain. Further clouding the issue, Jerry Manuel pointed to his upper arm while describing the problem, and pitching coach Dan Warthen labeled it a “shoulder” issue.

  1. I have had a pec strain, it can feel like it goes all the way up your shoulder. Can really hurt like hell.

  2. The pectoral IS a shoulder muscle. The bulk of it covers the chest as we all know, but the business end of it forms the front “wall” of the armpit, and its purpose is to move the arm.

To make a headline out of this is literally ignorant on the reporter’s part.
