Buck Showalter. Will this guy manage the Mets? No.

Buck Showalter.

65 years old.

Old-schoolish manager not raised by an accountant.

Managed successfully in New York.

Did reasonably well everywhere he’s been.

Won’t embarrass the franchise.

Seems like the perfect choice.  This hiring immediately ends the LOLMets Circus.  Buck won’t even need to horse hockey us with “new culture” talk.  Let’s just win some baseball games.

So why won’t Buck Showalter manage the Mets?  Because the Mets need to show how “smart” they are and will go with some out of the box untried manager (AGAIN) and fail again.  The Mets never learn.  They never learn.

Buck is the right move.  They won’t make it.

Wally Backman. Will this guy manage the Mets? No.

Well I am sad to hear about the passing of Sandy Alderson, because it is only over Sandy’s dead body that Wally will manage the Mets.

Somewhere in the Multiverse, Wally has been the Mets manager for about 15 years and is popular and successful.

Here on Earth-86, Wally comes with too much baggage, and following Mickeygate and Portergate the Mets aren’t going to take this press-hit on.

Mike Piazza. Will this guy manage the Mets? No.

They say catchers make the best managers.

Fans want someone with a little fire.

The nostalgia point is 20 years ago and dopey black uniforms.

Clearly, there is one choice for Mets manager!

Mike is not the sort of guy to just accept losing.  He’ll do whatever it takes to turn a losing result into a victory.  He’ll rally the troops and take on whatever forces are stopping him from getting what he wants!

He’s also been known to get into it with the press (as seen above). What fan wouldn’t like to see Mike get into it with the Mets beat?

Mike even has some managerial experience, with Team Italy.

So what’s stopping Mike Piazza from managing the Mets?

Well, he lives in Italy so the commute is going to be a little rough.

Will Mike Piazza manage the Mets? No.

Edgardo Alfonzo. Will this guy manage the Mets? No.

Maybe what the Mets need is to find someone who checks the following boxes:

  1. Nostalgia
  2. Popular
  3. Managed in the Mets’ system
  4. WON in the Mets’ system.

Edgardo Alfonzo is the perfect choice for Mets manager….to replace Mickey Hodges.  The Mets shod have pulled this lever two years ago.

However, to do this now, would sort of be like Luis Rojas 2.  Alfonzo hasn’t managed in the majors, and I am getting too old to worry about hoping someone can do the job.  The Mets need to hire an experienced manager.

Keith Hernandez. Will this guy manage the Mets? No.

Maybe what the Mets need to do is play Whitey Ball.  We will hire a really smart manager who understands situational hitting, defense and the Cardinals way.

Steve could back up the money truck and tell Keith he only has to do “important” road games (and the bench coach can do the rest.)

Keith can go full Davey and leave the players alone.  Keith can stroll in a 6:30 and let his assistants handle all the other stuff the way Ted Lasso does.

Unfortunately, the Mets are not going to be this creative.
