AMERICA’S VETDOGS PAIRS THE AMAZIN’ METS FOUNDATION’S FIRST SERVICE DOG WITH FIRST RESPONDER

The Amazin’ Mets Foundation’s first service dog, Shea, was paired with former NYPD first responder Richie Carter in a pregame ceremony at Citi Field on September 28

FLUSHING, N.Y., October 4, 2023 – America’s VetDogs, a New York-based national nonprofit that provides specially trained service dogs to veterans and first responders with disabilities, has officially paired the Amazin’ Mets Foundation’s first service dog, Shea, with NYPD first responder Richie Carter in a pregame ceremony at Citi Field on September 28.

“Being placed with Shea at Citi Field was one of the greatest moments of my life with so many emotions and doesn’t compare to anything I have ever been a part of,” said Carter. “I truly want to thank the New York Mets for helping raise Shea and welcoming me and my family with open arms into the Mets’ organization. Shea is going to change my life.”

Carter dedicated 20 years of his life to serving in the NYPD, where he spent over 250 grueling hours at Ground Zero as a first responder during the tragic events of 9/11. Beyond his dedicated service, Carter is a passionate baseball enthusiast and a lifelong Mets fan. Carter’s passion for baseball continued to grow throughout his life as he helped lead his NYPD softball team to multiple championship victories, standing tall as the captain behind the plate.

“We are proud that the Amazin’ Mets Foundation’s first service dog, Shea, has been paired with former NYPD officer and 9/11 first responder Richie Carter,” said Alex Cohen, President of the Amazin’ Mets Foundation and New York Mets Owner. “Service dogs can provide companionship, hope, joy, and a life-changing experience. It’s our honor to partner with America’s VetDogs and support our veterans and first responders.”

The New York Mets were the first-ever MLB team to raise a future service dog with Shea. The Amazin’ Mets Foundation recently sponsored their second service dog, Seaver, who like Shea, will be paired with a U.S. Veteran or first responder with disabilities.

“America’s VetDogs takes pride in pairing Shea with former NYPD officer Richie,” said John Miller president and CEO of America’s VetDogs. “The Amazin’ Mets Foundation and the New York Mets played a fundamental role in providing invaluable support for Shea’s upbringing and training. The unwavering dedication of everyone in the Mets’ front office, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, and Alex Cohen helped to make this possible.”

Seaver is currently undergoing basic training and socialization with the Amazin’ Mets Foundation staff and New York Mets players and fans before returning to America’s VetDogs campus in Smithtown, N.Y. for formal training.

Mets name David Stearns (who totally didn’t fire Buck Showalter) President of Baseball Operations

The Mets must have been up early this morning, met David Stearns for the first time, let him know that they don’t have a field manager, and offered him the job of President of Baseball Operations before the coffee was cold.

The Mets, I guess, want us all to be excited about this, but HOW MANY TIMES are we going to do the NEW CULTURE press conference guys?

Also note the “Steve and Alex” fanny kissing that I increasingly notice creeping into all Mets communications.  I guess Steve’s wife is now involved in decisions…otherwise, why thank her?

METS NAME DAVID STEARNS PRESIDENT OF BASEBALL OPERATIONS

FLUSHING, N.Y., October 2, 2023 – The New York Mets announced today David Stearns has been appointed President of Baseball Operations.

Stearns, who becomes the team’s first President, Baseball Operations in franchise history, will oversee the entire baseball operations department starting today. A native New Yorker, Stearns grew up rooting for the Mets and served as a baseball operations intern for the team in 2008.

“I’m incredibly excited to welcome David back to Queens,” Mets Owner, Chairman and CEO Steve Cohen said. “I said numerous times I wanted to find the right person for this position, and I believe David is exactly that – an experienced executive with a wide range of skillsets that will help push our baseball operations forward. He understands our fans’ passion and knows what it takes to build a sustainable, winning team.”

Stearns spent eight years with the Milwaukee Brewers, including 2016-2022 leading Milwaukee’s baseball operations, before spending this season as an advisor to owner Mark Attanasio and GM Matt Arnold. Under Stearns’ leadership the Brewers earned four straight postseason berths (2018-2021), including two NL Central titles (2018 and 2021).

“There is not an opportunity in baseball more meaningful to me than the chance to help lead this franchise.  I grew up, in large part, at Shea. I lived and breathed Mets baseball and I’m thrilled I get to do that again.  I’d like to thank Steve and Alex for giving me this opportunity. Their dedication to this organization and community was evident throughout our discussions, and I look forward to working with them towards achieving our shared vision of building a consistent championship contender.”

Stearns joined the Brewers following three seasons (2013-2015) as an assistant general manager with the Houston Astros. He was part of the front office that guided the Astros from 51 wins in 2013 to 86 victories in 2015 and a postseason appearance.

During the 2012 campaign, Stearns worked as the director of baseball operation with Cleveland, where he focused on contract negotiations, salary analysis, team strategy and roster management.

From 2008-2011, he worked for Major League Baseball in the Office of the Commissioner as the manager of labor relations, where he assisted in the salary arbitration process, handled uniform player contracts and was a member of MLB’s negotiating team for the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Prior to joining the Mets in 2008, Stearns served as an intern in baseball operations with the Pittsburgh Pirates during the summers of 2005 and 2006.

Queens Baseball Convention Tickets On Sale NOW

Hey guys, with Steve about to announce a new new new new culture, and Mets baseball as far away as it will ever be, why not get something on your off-season calendar?  It’s the 2023 Queens Baseball Convention!

Sources close to the QBC tell me the below:

This year we brought back the general admission ticket for folks who don’t want autographs. We also charge less for autographs than a lot of the card shows that don’t provide any kind of entertainment like we do with the panels. The other thing we don’t do is charge for photos with the guests. If the guests are cool with you taking a quick picture with them while you are getting something signed, we don’t feel like our fellow fans should be charged for that. But again only if the guests are cool with it while they are at the signing table. Some conventions charge almost as much as the autograph for a photo. We hope this helps everyone understand why tickets have gone up.

We would say if you are coming to get autos from all 3 guests, with  3 inscription tickets, and a fast pass, Grab the VIP Orange ticket. If you did everything separately it would be $249.92. You can get all of this for $199.99

The VIP Blue ticket is even a better deal. It would be $999.68. You are getting great value at $699.99. It’s a big saving.

General Admission tickets are $59.99 and that ticket just gets you in the door to see the panels and vendors. Again folks we don’t want to raise prices at all but with all the work we do, we don’t even really do this for a profit. we just try to make enough revenue that we don’t have to go into our own pockets. We enjoy doing this for our fellow fans and believe it or not it’s been TEN YEARS since we founded the QBC. We appreciate all our fellow fans and we want to consistently put on the best even we can possibly due year in and year out. It’s a labor of love and a lot goes into the running of the Queens Baseball Convention.

Tickets go live at 10 am on Monday October 2nd on QueensBaseballConvention.com

You need to buy a General Admission ticket one of our Admission/Auto packages to enter QBC. These packages contain admission to QBC and one autograph from one of the players. You can purchase additional autograph tickets for the players separately.

Followup on Steve Cohen should be worried he’s lost the Mets diehards

OK, so like most posts I took a lot of guff over the post a few weeks back (the one Steve Cohen responded to) about how the Mets should be worried they’ve lost the diehards.

Many many people came at me saying it was a religious holiday that day.  OK fine, it was a religious holiday.  Otherwise, The Section would have been totally full.

What’s today’s excuse?  Is it the sunny dry high-70’s weather is too sunny?   Is everyone celebrating CD Player Day?

Or…maybe….hear me out….I took an unpopular stance, most people are unable to be free thinkers for some reason….. and yet again I was right about things.

This is at least the third straight Outing that has looked like this.  There’s a problem in Queens….and it’s not Buck Showalter.  That looks like 250 empty seats to me Steve.  Something is wrong.  The new rules apparently aren’t THAT much fun.
