An idea for Mets Tickets “Pick your pack” and why it won’t work

Tom had an idea:

I wish they had a “you pick what games work for you pack”. Kind of like the premium picks pack, but for 15 games in the promenade. Do it before the promotional schedule is released. And you can pick who you want to see and that’ll decide what it costs. Why don’t you just buy 15 random games you ask? To make it a package you stipulate that in order to go to Opening day or the subway series, you buy 15 games, but at least you can make it work for you, instead of being told what games you’re going to.

Tom, I get what you are saying, and in the Utopian World it might work, but the Mets are a BUSINESS (not yelling at you, yelling at everyone who forgets that this isn’t 9 kids out to hit a ball with a stick) – it’s a business that wants to make money.

Let’s look at my Saturday Plus plan.  Do you think the Mets think, “Wow, Shannon would really love to come on Thursday night!”  Nope.  I imagine someone thought, “Ugh, Thursday night against the Tigers.  We won’t draw well that night.”  So that game made the plan.  Or so my imagination thinks.

Under your plan we could all decide to go to Opening Day, some Saturdays, maybe three agianst the Phillies, screw all those April games and screw those late September games.

That really wouldn’t help the Mets.

Of course, not buying a 15 game pack at all doesn’t help the Mets either.

What you missed on Mets Police this weekend

Ok slackers…while you were sunning yourself at the beach all weekend, I was sunning myself on the deck and typing about the Mets.  I know you haven’t visited the site because I have Google Analytics.  Don’t you obsessively follow the Mets on your mobile devices like I do?

Fortunately for you, I will recap what you missed.

Earlier tonight, the Media Goon, Dan and I did one of those audiocasts which if you can hear by hitting play on the thing below.

Listen to internet radio with mets police on Blog Talk Radio

If you’re on Google Reader or reading this via email you are probably looking for the thing.  You won’t see it.  You’ll have to go here.

We discussed Valentine, attendance, ticket fees, Santana, Gooden…but shockingly made it half an hour without talking about uniforms.   Never mentioned black!  I don’t think we made audio history or were all that smooth, but hey who knew a blog about sitting in the uppers would catch on.

You missed some good stuff at the beach:

I did some old style complaining about Ticket Fees

This photo of Citi Field is beautiful.

Gooden will still be included in the Hall of Fame stuff

The Mets did volunteer work this week:  photos, photos and more photos.

Howie will love this: Tom Seaver on the Mike Douglas Show! Mike Douglas seems like Howie’s kind of show.

From earlier in the week:

Cyclones Tie-Dye Uniforms

Cool Mitchell & Ness blue jerseys

Terence wants us to help him decide how to customize his jersey

Ticket Fee discussion started when the Mets began their Better Seats Lower Prices campaign

Guess what color these Mets Napkins are

The time Tom Seaver struck me out as a kid.

Thanks to everyone who sends stuff in (shannon@metspolice.com) including Danielle who hooked me up several times this week.

You can get Mets Police in a free daily email or free via Google Reader. Subscriptions help make the site grow, and you never miss anything.   LGM!

Bobby V NOT going to Marlins

Sports Illustrated is reporting that Bobby Valentine is no longer a candidate to be the Marlins manager.

As a Mets fan this is a good thing.  I much prefer the Marlins to be 8 back with nobody at the helm than V maximizing the talent to a wild card as he tends to do.

By the way if the season ended today, the Mets are the NL Wild Card.

Who can tell me why Citi Field looks so good in this photo?

The beautiful photo below was posted this morning on Mets Blog and was taken by Michael Baron who runs Mets Photos (a great site with awesome Mets related pictures).  It really caught my eye.  Take a look at it, then let’s discuss it.  (Click on it for a bigger view).

That’s a great looking shot.  (Thanks Michael for letting me borrow it.  I’ll return the favor with one of my crooked blurry iphone shots of a guy wearing a Shinjo jersey).

It looks like a warm place.  A place filled with Mets fans.

Why does it look so good?

As you scan the photo three colors catch your eye.  Orange, blue and white.  The three colors that the franchise chose when they got it right the first time in 1962.

Next year is the 50th season of Mets baseball.   It’s a perfect excuse to return to the classic look and classic color scheme.   You can wear the dopey black crap on Mike Piazza Day and Edgardo Alfonzo day.

Sell whatever you want to civilians.  Hell, I bought a GREEN jersey this week, it doesn’t mean the Mets should wear them.

I believe in Orange and Blue.  Do the Wilpons?
