Most Popular articles on Mets Police (April 18)

Good morning- while I am sure the Sunday papers are filled with all sorts of articles about the 20 inning game, the offense, Omar, Jerry, the Wilpons, maybe even some Bobby V – I am actually out right now participating in Actual Athletic Activity.

That was some game last night – like everyone else, it disrupted my plans but was a heckuva lot of fun.

I went to bed wondering how long Jerry can last.  He got the win, but the team just looks dead.   Three innings against position players and they got two runs.  I like Hojo and all but something’s gotta give.

Anyway, I’m being athletic, will be back shortly since it’s right in town – until then, enjoy the most popular from the week.

Although it was the most read article of the week, I thought it would get even a bigger reaction in the Metsosphere.  Here’s a conversation with a Mets marketing executive about uniforms.

If the Mets do change the uniform for 2011, it could look like this.

My favorite discussion of  the week asked, is the 42 thing too much? I wonder if having one player on each tean wear the number might be have more impact than having entire teams do it.

Previous very poplar articles:

We were mentioned in the New York Times! There’s tangible evidence that all this blogging actually changed something for better – and that was that the Mets quickly responded in repairing the errant Game 7 brick.

If you’re new, this regularly gets clicked: It might make financial sense, but it sure is annoying to think Bobby Bonilla will get $1 million a year from the Mets from 2011-2035.

Wow.

For the first 16, I don’t know if this was that memorable a game other than the number of innings and the weird managerial moves (especially in the home dugout).  I actually had an original version of this post, written around the 16th or so, that said it wasn’t a remarkable game.    I had another version in the bottom of the 19th with 2 out.  Oops.

As the night got longer and longer this one became amazing.  For all the armchair managers, this was a field day.

I think Jerry is dead now.  Two runs against three innings of position players.  This team is going nowhere.

I jumped on-line during the 8th inning, and as the game kept going and going I cleaned out my inbox and posted 13 new articles for the next 7 days, this one being the 14th post of the night.

I hung out on twitter (@metspolice) which was tremendous fun, and a great way to watch a game.  The community aspect is wonderful.

I can’t tell you how many times I asked if Jerry was going to use K-Rod…Jerry danced with the devil tonight and got away with it several times.  And then he used K-Rod and…oops!

The bullpen was awesome.  The offense was awful.

How about that Cora at first?

How about the Marlins playing a 7pm game and finishing before the Mets?

How about the Rockies getting a no-hitter while this went on?

The Cards bringing Lopez in to pitch the 18th?

Valdez being thrown out at second?

What’s with Jerry giving up an out, with Reyes on first and a position player on the mound?  In the 19th?

Loved Mather’s look-back at Reyes on second.

Two innings of position players pitching (the 18th and 19th) and they get one run on a sac-fly, with a pitcher-in-left making the putout.  Three innings, two runs.

Pujols doubles after a caught-stealing in the 19th.  Then a pitcher playing outfield is up next.  Wild.

You just knew K-Rod would blow the save.  Nothing against K-Rod, but he’s on the Mets.

The 20th inning!   I enjoyed Castillo popping up to the pitcher-playing-LF, and Mather catching

Pelfrey leads the team in wins and saves!   K-Rod the win, Pelfrey the save.  what?????

Omar got his win.

If you’re a big fan of Tom Glavine, the 2008 Mets, the 2000 World Series or the 1988 NLCS you sure will love this article on ESPN New York.

Author Mike Simon got reactions from several of the Mets bloggers as they debate which was the most painful moment in Mets history.    Maybe I’m an oddball but I would have gone with 9/11/87.  I was at Shea last night, and the Mets had clawed through injuries all summer to hunt down the Cardinals.  They had a lead and Dwight Gooden was pitching the next day.   And then…

Anyway, if you’re a Mets fan you probably like misery.  Check it out.

Top of the 9th as I type this.   Getting worried about the season.   5 days until Santana again.

In better selfish news I see my blog was drunk and didn’t publish two of the posts that were scheduled for the morning, which means I now have less work to do this week.

Why Ike Davis isn’t on the Mets

Read this from MLB Trade rumors and it will explain to you why Omar will wait until April 20th to call Ike up. It actually makes long-term sense.

I just heard someone call WFAN and suggest Lee Mazzilli as manager.  Man, even I haven’t floated that one yet this year.  I don’t see Lee being the man to bring this team in to play .625 ball.  He seems more of a June 16, 1977 manager – once they say screw it and play Thole, Ike, F-Mart and Tejada and let Jose Reyes meet his destiny winning an MVP with Boston.

I also heard someone blasting the hit song by Santana out their car window.  Maybe it’s a sign today will be a good day.

I’m considering buying a black Mets jersey to throw Day Job Boss off the trail.

Bizarro World Mets Uni-Tweak

As I mentioned earlier, it’s Saturday when I like to sleep in, eat donuts and spend some family time.  I’ve also taken to making Saturday a less-serious day around here.  So with that, I’m heading to Dunkin’ and here’s Walt:

I decided to basically throw all of the Mets uniform colors into a blender, and see what comes out. Both Home & Road uniforms retain a small touch of traditional coloring for flavor (and whimsy). Piping on both uniforms is is coordinated with the color-way of each jerseys word-marks/lettering/numbers.

My Home uniform is more based off of the Mets primary “ball and city-scape” logo than the traditional & current home uni-sets.

The Road uniform retains the traditional “NEW YORK” word-mark, while going with a seriously old school dark road-uni look.

Of course, this will probably cause a number of Mets fans heads to explode.
